Yeah I know, necro (so kill me).

Nuclear Throne is an amazing game, but by far the biggest problem with it is the half-baked state the developer left it in with various bugs and problems, and including promised features which never materialized before abandoning it.

Fear not because your faith in humanity is about to be restored.

A team of 3rd party modders not only unofficially fixed most of the bugs and problems with the game, but added online Co-op using the Steam interface and backend to boot. Apparently this was all done by reverse-engineering the code as a method to rewrite the game at the binary level.

Pretty impressive stuff, and pretty sad as well because some random person had to go through all that trouble when the developer could have done it with 1/10th of the effort.

Did I mention that Nuclear Throne is also available for a bargain in the latest Humble Bundle? Check it out!

Yeah.... it's been kinda sad how they just sorta abandoned it that way.  And it had been such this big huge thing for them, as well.  Not to mention they'd said they were going to keep updating it and such, and the last one was... what, February?  And was some small fixes?  Ugh.

And this mod guy even added replays, I see.  I seem to recall that being deemed as too hard to implement, during the beta.

Maybe they can go a bit further and make the whole crown system not suck, or give the secret levels more of a point.

Wow, this is awesome!  I just picked it up in the humble bundle, and I was just lamenting to a friend that there was no online co-op.  I'm going to have to give this a try.

I got the humble bundle and finally got around to playing nuclear throne. I was pretty impressed, the gameplay feels so much smoother and more fun than gungeon. So glad to finally have picked it up. What are the bugs/flaws I need to look out for though?

Hmm, a few that come to mind:

1.  Glitched crown vaults.   There's not a whole lot of reason to go to these in a general sense really since the crowns are still as bad as ever, but if you DO go to them, know that there's a pretty good chance of getting a bugged vault.  AKA, a vault that also thinks it's part of another level, and stuffed with random enemies and glitched-out walls.

2.  The level-gen issues with 5-3 were NEVER FIXED.  The issues with that boss also were NEVER FIXED.   Despite that complaints kept up non-stop for an entire year.   So expect trouble on that level, and know that it can be *way* more dangerous than the entire rest of the game because of these things, when they occur.   I just love Vlambeer *rolls eyes*

3.  Enemies can sometimes get jammed right through walls.  Sometimes this causes issues, sometimes it just blinks them out of existence.  Fortunately, this is pretty rare but you'll see it happen every now and then when blasting them with stuff.

4.  Not a "bug" per say, but if I recall correctly, the daily runs still allow the player to grab crowns.   In other words, grab the crown of blood EVERY TIME (the one that makes lots more enemies spawn), or you WILL place low on the boards.  AKA, still broken.  Again, this was complained about for a LONG time...  ignored...

Those are the ones that spring to memory right away.   There's a lot more bugs than that though.  Vlambeer doesn't really.... fix stuff.  They've always tended to ignore things.

Also the Pizza Sewers is still the only secret level worth bothering to go to.  Unless you want a golden weapon, then YV's mansion has a point.  But other secret areas, don't bother with them unless you are missing a character unlock (Chicken, from the jungle area).

Here's hoping that modders can continue doing more with this beyond just the co-op stuff.  The game really needs it in some areas.  I mostly would really like to see the crowns revamped or replaced with something that's a bit more interesting.
