No Man's Sky

A Behind-The-Scenes Tour Of No Man's Sky's Technology
I had forgotten this game existed. It seems to have a lot of potential and is supposed to be released some times in 2015. In addition to a whole procedurally generated galaxy to explore it's supposed to have some kind of survival gameplay elements

Quote from: Wikipedia
No Man's Sky does have a larger goal, to reach the center of the galaxy, driven by the availability of resources to the player, which improve as the player moves towards the center of the galaxy. Players need to collect, sell, and trade resources to acquire better ships and more fuel that lets them explore the more-centralized areas of the galaxy. Hello Games' co-founder Sean Murray stated that a player could reach the center of the galaxy with between forty to one hundred hours of gameplay without focusing on any additional exploration, but will hope players instead find themselves involved in other activities enabled by the open nature of the game, such as managing a trade route or studying all the possible flora in the universe.

Just throwing this out here as a reminder of this game. It seems promising. Kind of like scifi Minecraft on steroids.. IF the survival and resource gathering part of the game is good enough.

I am excited for this game but the internet absolutely went crazy for this game despite nothing being known about it for the first few months.

Yep. Internet does like to hype about a lot of things. This does look promising but I'm not going to hop on the hype bandwagon just yet. I don't think the exploration part of the game alone is enough to make it successful. The game will need a solid survival and resource gathering mechanics.

It looks like the survival bits are probably really solid, from the look of things.  The resource gathering bits are less clear to me in terms of how they work and what they're good for.  I'm getting really spoiled on 7 Days To Die at the moment, heh.  I have 48 hours on that game since I got it on the 6th of the month!  That's just an incredible volume of play for me compared to what I normally would do.
