New PC Monitor
« on: March 23, 2011, 05:33:26 am »
With my new Asus laptop arriving in a few days, I have decided I might as well get a nice big monotor, type 24".

But I am torn in what kind of monitor I want. Perferably I want 1920 x 1200 (with high contrast and 2ms) resolution, but seem most montoris only got 1920 x 1080, so my quest got longer. ;)

Any experince with some decent monitors?

Am I way too late for this?  I've always really liked Dell's Ultrasharp line for stuff like that.  I've had a 2408WFP for a couple years, and it's great, and the model that replaced it (U2410, I think) is supposed to be similar or slightly better.  There are some other IPS and PVA/MVA (i.e. anything but TN) displays that are supposed to be pretty good in the same price range, too, but I forget which models specifically.

Pretty much the only way to get a 1920x1200 instead of 1920x1080 screen these days is to step up to the better-than-TN panels, which will cost more, but they look much better.  The idea that you absolutely need a 2ms response time is largely a bunch of crap, and the way they measure and report it is pretty hazy anyway.  The only way to get it that low is with a TN panel, which sucks for other image quality-related reasons, and I've never noticed this monitor ghosting or lagging at all while playing games.  The dramatically improved color gamut and viewing angle are well worth it for me anyway.

24" is a really big monitor, so make sure you get a good enough resolution to handle it. I have an Acer monitor and LOVE it. The picture on it is great. I think it's a good idea that you're getting a monitor with your laptop. Might as well get the whole setup for it- speakers and all! I've got mine mounted on a pop up tv lift and am loving it right now.

I haven't bothered to get a monitor for my new laptop yet. Sure it's only 15", but 1920x1080 is just fine for me ;D
