Personnaly I only really listen to a band named Fall Out Boy and any other songs that I come across and like. So in other words I listen to punk pop music.

Folk Metal is pretty great, yeah. Though I still prefer instrumental music.

Been listening to this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zle-RdHmlDg) since I found out it had a name from an lp, today.

funny thing is I kinda hate metal honestly I used to think it was either just noise or boring I've taken a liking to folk metal because it doesn't take it self so dam seriously that music clip is pretty sweet looks obscure as all hell.

Its not exactly obscure as hell, its just a part of an older SMT game's sound track and not titled something like 'Battle 2', which shows up more often. Its not too far off in views from some (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPxokkQlcFc) more (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJM_DPqV50c) recent (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LaHhOPbTe8) tracks (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raQy8bgaV5Y) from the same company, actually :)

I was listening to Power Metal during April but now currently listening to more calmer Videogame soundtracks like Eve Online's OST. As well as music like this: http://nervoustestpilot.co.uk/album/frozen-cortex-original-soundtrack. (Its so good).

I tend to have a rotation of music I listen to, depends on my general mood. But it's a wide variety so I won't list out every genre I listen to.

I get sucked into this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PKNuZovuSw) every once in a while and have to stick it on repeat.
Tonight was an accident relative to the date, but certainly a good track for Cinco de Mayo.
(I don't listen to much music, most of which is either parody or vocal-less).

I usually just listen to a random youtube playlist of Touhou remixes. You can listen for hours without hearing the same remix over again.

I've been listening to electonic stuff for the last few days, in particular Dopplereffekt (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzJEtt3O6LE) and alva noto (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAlyEHBbTEE). Normally I prefer stuff that's more melodic, this just happens to work at the moment.

Although speaking of melody - Air! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfJuJepVA_M)

Transistor OST (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGMWL8cOeAU)
Touhou OST (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOPUkfDj8bs)
Ace Combat V OST (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JY05PJhn5eA)
etc.
So basically video game soundtracks.

FWIW, the song's called An Honor Befitting That Name just about everywhere you can find it. I prefer Take the Shield, Raise the Spear (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07SR4mexs0A) anyway. Good music to kill a living genesis to.

Replying to this post here, I am SO disappointed by Q's ost. After the excellent mixes in the P3 movies (and as an EO fan) I was looking forward to the game, but ultimately decided to pass. Better music might have convinced me the other way.

In a fit of hypocrisy, I'm listening to the Xenoblade X soundtrack. Right this second it's Don't Worry, the robot flight theme (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKyJsKDw-os). A lot of people are complaining about the ost, but I quite like it.

Ace Combat V OST (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JY05PJhn5eA)

Man, Ace Combat had some ace music.

I really like the music of Parov Stelar. I cannot say exactly what I like about it but any song I listen from him is directly a like. Favourite song is "Catgroove".
Besides that I like the video game music remixes of DjtheS from youtube (and I think he has also a bandcamp account). He mixes soundtracks of popular (mostly nintendo) video games with techno remixes and similiar stuff. I don't like everything from him but most stuff he does is very refreshing and likable.
My favourite songs from him are the disciple months one..

Parov Stelar is a lot of fun

For those in this thread interested in folk metal, try some Eluveitie.

I also listen to a lot of "Indie" music. Favorites there include My Morning Jacket, The Decemberists, and The Arctic Monkeys.

If you guys want something really different, try the dance-punk band known as !!! . Here's (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9QYW2Su6b0) one of their songs (though the actual video isn't great, so just listen)

Ooh, haven't heard that one yet in the lp. Sounds like a final boss-ish theme though.

How are the p3 movies, by the way? i haven't tried to look for anything related to them, since I had no idea if they were any good and heard conflicting opinions on p4 the animation.

Unless I'm remembering wrong it's the final boss theme all right. Though, it does sample the main menu theme.

The movies are quite good, way better than the P4 anime. That is, unless you like the S Link characters. They're all extras in this.

I like most anything.

* Morning jacket's new album is not good. I could not finish it on Rhapsody (yes, I do legal music). I don't really think they play their instruments very well, and they sound like they are wailing.
* Mumford & Sons' new song Tompkins Square Park is the real deal. The rest of the album has some good spots but nothing that sustains the strong mood from that first track.
* Ciara's new album is the typical stuff from her. Meh.
* Modest mouse's new album isn't as good as the old stuff.
* California Nights' "Best Coast" album is hilariously dramatic middle-aged pop. I enjoyed it.
* Electronic music is overloaded right now. Something for everybody. I guess I like electronic music that maintains some kind of cohesive theme and rhythm. Some of this stuff right now has 10 or 11 different diversions going on that you really can't bob your head to it. The whole point of electronic music, for me, is so that when I am programming I can get into my zone and just pound something out. If I need to debug, I switch to Baroque music (which if you don't know, is basically Crusader Kings music… the real stuff!).
* Rap can be good for programming.
* Most Country sucks. Some rich white guy trying to convince me that he's some cowboy from the dusty road that likes his booze and farm women or something. I don't know. It just sounds fake. And if it's just supposed to be storytelling and a soundtrack for the southern experience (or fantasy), I guess I'm not meant to get it. I guess you could say the same thing for a lot of rap, but the beat is better!

I will listen to albums looking for good tracks, but it's rare these days to get an album that is good from front to back. Like Pearl Jam from back in the day, or Dave Matthews' old stuff, or Blues Traveler's "Four."

I cant argue with you about modern country its pretty much turned into pop music their just pretending to be not like real country were people value things like family and so on.

Bitpop and chiptunes, mostly. Anything with singing in it tend to be very basic on a melodical level and thus bores the crap out of me. I prefer instrumental music where the musician is the focus, not the singer. Signing and lyrics just don't interest me. Musical theory though...now that's the stuff.

And believe it or not, bitpop and chiptunes have a lot of that, because due to the restraints they've put on themselves with the sound, they have to be creative with the melody, music and arrangements. So that's why I like it. Yeah, I'm a bit nerdy like that ^^

When I read this, I didn't want to believe it, but man... it's TERRIBAD. I think they are fine instrumentalists, but, the songwriting on this album is just really lack luster, very un-MMJ like. Makes me sad as I was really looking forward to this one. Damn.

i don't know why this thread died but id like to revive by saying that I recently purchased an album from a band glory hammer called 1992 rise of the chaos wizards its lovably fantastic and has made me decide to do a bit of branching into other genres  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkRl84KdHcU
also enougher album I discovered which I really like even though I wish I could find an instrumental version since I hate the vocals of it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KZhOQX8_3A

its not like this threads not relevant any more after really it will never be irrelevant i can revive it over and over again really.

Space 1992: Rise of the Chaos Wizards is one of the greatest album titles of all time (and fits the music perfectly)! I never really got into that style of music though, not too sure why.

Currently listening to Gonjasufi (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpFPcUwqZW4), more generally been getting into B (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOobFF1mXLU)r (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og7m71xuFbA)o (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5ZJ-N750Bk)a (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Gd8z-CeaJI)d (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGtMxXtlo-Q)c (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVgqjYu0mxs)a (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdf1viwZDw4)s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqINetENovg)t (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRUO411-vJ4) in a big way.

I recently purchased an album from a band glory hammer called 1992 rise of the chaos wizards its lovably fantastic
Haha that's awesome. Recently I've been listening to Gloryhammer too! Power metal taken to the next level (over 9k). Gloryhammer is what happens when a dungeons and dragons session gets out of hard. Nerd metal should I say. I actually did my new record (3222m (~2 miles)) in the Cooper test (basically run as far as you can in 12 minutes) while listening to Gloryhammer.
Playlist:
1. Universe On Fire (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXzMD065HEk)
2. Angus McFife (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTW30Q4B3Go)
3. The unicorn invasion of Dundee (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlhQZFTvAn4)
Imo the top 3 tracks from Gloryhammer and they also conviniently add up to 12 minutes 2 seconds which is perfect for the Cooper test. It's the power, cheesyness and the high BPM that make these tracks excellent for running. While running at 16,5 km/h (~10,3 mph) the beat goes pretty much hand in hand with steps. I've managed to condition myself to get really pumped up whenever I listen to any of those 3 tracks. Got to listen to them sparingly.

Holy Knights and Dragon Force also have some pretty good nerd metal
Holy Knights - Love Against the Power of Evil (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfzbRBqdj7g)
Holy Knights - Gate Through the Past (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wa9svw_ejZA)
DragonForce - Storming the Burning Fields (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AxCRho2gc8)
DragonForce - Three Hammers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVIGju-rSho)

More stuff
Metal
Iron Fire - Blacksmith of Thunder (Bonus Track) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmoc66809Zs)
Stratovarius - Eagleheart (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCnn7WEQIDI)
Edguy - We Don't Need a Hero (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Er0Czzbn-No)
Exumer - I Dare You (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0V_AQOAHmIs)
Abominable Putridity - Wormhole Inversion (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGGK93eqAMo&t=16m54s)

I usually listen to  my music of the internet(mainly because finding their albums to buy were I live tends to be a bit difficult and ordering them of the internet is risky) if I like an album enough though I will purchase it.
I also wish I could cut out lyrics out of songs at will because I lot of the time I find that their either 1 annoying 2 i have no idea what their even saying or 3 although this is pretty much regulated to the metal genera that they do that weird thing were they sound like there snarling/have throat cancer which I really hate.
usually I like the instrumental enough to get past those issues though
I typically like to listen to music while playing ccgs since I like to be doing SOMETHING while I'm listening to music.

also here's some more albums 1 of which I don't really listen to any more but I used to adore flesh god apocalypse king https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ9nd7zm1MA stupid name but bloody good album even with the raspy bullshit going

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruXGlNr-K30 holy grail times of pride and peril for once I really dig the vocals of this the singer sound fantastic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwN8NLE9sEw tyr the lay of thrym bloody good album as far as I'm concerned its my personal favourite and i realy need to re favourite this album and listen to it some time.

edit cant get a full album of king so you'll have to find the full version of it your self if your that interested

and i cant get the link to go to pride and peril at the right time sorry.

Seems like a good place to big up this beautiful classical piece by an underrated composer:

recently I've been watching a lets play of Alice madness returns and it prompted me to hunt down the soundtrack to its ancestor American McGee's Alice   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84qSgfweDnA&index=1&list=PLE6593A6F00DB9E4B
I particularly love the red queens theme.
