Theres a much simpler reason why not to use Windows 8: it looks ridiculous as a desktop OS, they stuffed the Ribbon interface into Explorer, and Win7 and/or Linux or Mac works perfectly fine.

Yea, if they think I'm going to feel a need to upgrade from Win7 any time soon, they have another thing coming ;)

But I don't blame them for trying to continue to improve/innovate.  I've done enough iterative development to understand why every other windows is a lemon ;)  Granted, my view of what they're doing is probably somewhat more charitable than is warranted, but I'm sure the other angle is well covered already.

It'll do fine as a tablet OS, probably. At least as good as the windows phone. (which did great, for very low standards of 'great').
