For me it's more about spending time with people.  I game a lot with my dad.  I play Mario Kart with my gf.  I play Castle Crashers with my kids.

I've played SC through the matchmaker and it just isn't fun for me.  The player on the other side might as well be AI because all interaction is the same.

Ok... I jumped overboard with both feet.

Surface warfare in 10 second intervals :)

The pacing in the tutorial is very slow.  I'm playing a campaign in offline mode and it runs just fine for me.  I've barely scratched the surface with this one, so maybe the latter parts of the game will get more tactically challenging.

I hope that most of the good stuff isn't locked away in multiplayer (where I'll never see it).
So is this a positive recommendation? :)

So far so good :)  I'm enjoying getting sunk repeatedly while I'm figuring it out.
I'm playing the 3rd mission in one of the campaigns and haven't found the right method for getting through it.  Definitely a challenge now.

If you like naval warfare, I'd say give it a go.

Just to throw in my 2 cents after playing around today...

Not enough single player content. 9 mission campaign and 5 challenge missions isn't going to cut it.

Now if you have some friends to play with, then you could have a lot of fun with it.  So my opinion floats both ways... single player play, no... multiplayer, sure.

Now I have $9.99 worth of 1s and 0s that I probably wont play again (completed all the SP content).

Ah, pity.  Still, I may pick it up on sale just for those 14 missions or whatever.  Thanks for the report!

MP would be possible for me, except that it's competitive instead of co-op.  If I lose, I like to take everyone else with me ;)

The campaign and challenge missions looked to be co-op possible.  Tbh the single player content looks incomplete, and that is rather disappointing.

It's good then that I stopped myself from buying this one. I switched to Prime World Defenders - it's a TS + card game in one. Quite nicely done - maybe a bit grind-y but fun.

I actually pre-ordered it and have been playing it a good bit since then. I really enjoy it, though its true that it's really a multiplayer game. You can do co-op with the missions and challenge modes as well as battles with other players. It's a lot like Frozen Synape and Hero Academy in that regard. It's asynchronous and you can set the turn times up to 7 days, so really as long as you've got a few friends who are into it, you'll get a lot of mileage out of it.

Also, as far as bugs go, the only one I've seen so far is the ship parts list sometimes won't display the first entry in each list until you click the scroll arrow. Certainly no game breaking bugs or unplayable issues other than the servers being slow for online play.

*wonders what Fox will do when we get around to announcing pre-orders on Skyward or the next AIW expansion*

There's a difference between participating in "Early access" games and "pre-ordering something you know jack-all about and that might suck balls." <- insert Alien Colonial Marines, for instance. Or heck, Simcity.

True, early-access is a very different thing, though often the term "pre-order" is used to describe both.

I agree with abstaining from pre-order-with-no-products.  The exception would be a case where I'd want the developer to have the money even if I never got to play the game because I just want them to make it.  But Kickstarter is probably a better way of handling that, to avoid sending confused signals either way.

Half-way through that I was already composing a post about "That's what Kickstarter is for", but then ... yeah :D

The only problem with it that it has always on DRM. You can't play offline even single player.
