League of Legends Season One Championship

Here's the stream:

Anyone have any favorites?

While I'm not really hoping for any particular team to win, Epik does have Doublelift, who is probably my favorite high Elo player.

For those of you who didn't see today's games and care, Fnatic beat Epik Gaming 2 to 0. There was a disconnect in the first game on EG's side which pretty much cost them the game. Riot's policy is to ignore DCs that happen after 5 minutes/first blood. Many viewers were outraged. I hadn't seen the previous games but apparently there were other games ruined by disconnections.

The semi-finals are tomorrow- I don't know if they're playing the upper or lower bracket though.

I've never been able to get into the DOTA-like category of games. (MOBAs? Isn't that what they're called now) Maybe it's just that I don't like the idea of games where everyone seems to despise everyone else. I've considered giving LoL/HoN a try some time, but I always have second thoughts when I hear horror stories about the community being a bunch of raving madmen who want everyone else to die. Perhaps when Valve comes out with their version they'll manage to find a way to circumvent this problem. Although from what I understand, it seems like it's inherent in the design of the game, so then whatever they create wouldn't really be DOTA.

I know this is only tangentially related to the subject, but I felt like venting.

The community is awful, like most free/competitive game communities. That's why I play almost exclusively with my friends. The enemy team can't really negatively effect your ability to win by trolling, especially when, if they try to annoy you, you can simply /mute them.

But the genre isn't for everyone, regardless. The snowball nature of the game can be quite frustrating at times.

Regarding the tournament, the championship match is being held tonight at 6:00 pm EST (or about 1 hour 40 minutes from now), it should be a blast. Fnatic vs against All authority. It's a shame both teams are European, I was really hoping a North American team would make it to the finals.

The most amusing moment I ever had was an alleged war veteran who was also allegedly a manager at a chocolate factory threatening to cross the country and kill me. And would I please give him my address?

I'm still laughing about that.

Fnatic takes home $50k. I preferred them over aAa at least (mainly because I've seen them streaming, never seen aAa outside of this tournament.)

Hopefully we can get an upload of the finals soon (I missed it because my friends wanted me to play Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 with them, oh well.)

Is that any good?  I liked the first one, but I've been kind of avoiding the new one so far because the support was so incredibly awful.  There were some pretty severe bugs that they never even acknowledged existed (like easily reproducible crash-to-desktop bugs that could be triggered accidentally during normal gameplay even while trying to avoid them), much less fixed, so as much fun as it was, my friend and I had to give up on it after not being able to make it through more than 1 out of every 4 games without it exploding on one or both of us.  They sure had plenty of time to keep putting out more DLC and paid deck unlocks, though...

Is that any good?  <snip>

I greatly enjoy it, as do my friends. It's definitely a game for casual or beginner MtG players (missing a lot of the depth and options) but I prefer it that way, and I'm sure you already know that from the first one. I never actually played the first, but I hear that this game is much more balanced than it, and it does feel fairly balanced. Some decks are a bit weaker and some are a bit stronger but the difference isn't incredibly staggering.

As far as bugs, it definitely has its fair share. Trying to check the Leaderboards causes a crash-to-desktop more than half the time, and I've already run into an infinite-loop bug with the AI. Then there are timer annoyances, where you'll have your opponent delaying their attack or what have you, and then suddenly the rest of the turn rushes and you don't have time to assign blockers or cast instants or use creature abilities. Mouse control can be very frustrating at times- the menu system is very awkward, and card selection can be a real hassle.

But overall, it's been a blast. The Archenemy mode is amazing to play with friends, even though it's incredibly cheap and unfair. Two-Headed Giant is phenomenal if you have someone to play with online. I hear people mourn the loss of local coop. I don't really have anyone to play with locally, so it's no bother to me per se, but I do find it somewhat annoying that they'd remove a feature like that when it was working in the first game.

All in all, I'd say it's a buggy mess that is incredibly addictive and fun to play, easily worth $10.

I suppose I'll add it to my list for the Steam summer sale, in that case, assuming that's happening again this year.
