League of Legends Low Priority Queue
« on: January 30, 2015, 04:13:51 pm »
Sometimes I have to leave my game early because I need to go to school, and because of this I get put on the low priority queue. I have already finished the 5 minute low priority but now after exiting 1 game too early it put me on a 10 minute low priority queue, after I am done being put in the 10 minute low priority how do I reset it so that the next time I leave a game it does not go to 15.

Stop leaving? If you don't have enough time for a full game, don't queue. There's 9 other people you're screwing over by leaving.

I know, but the games take such a varied amount of time, even if I have an hour on hand there is no guarantee I will have enough time for a game.

My only suggestion is to find a different time to play LoL (Like at night or weekends). If you can't find the time, it might be best to find a different game to play. Yes, these games are of variable length, that's the nature of the genre but they are generally consistent in requiring at least an hour per game. SMITE does have other modes that go around 20-40 minutes but even then I'd still set aside an hour. Some days, I'll set aside 1.5 hours just to avoid risking upsetting my other appointments. Otherwise, there's not much more we can tell you. You can't leave games otherwise LoL will enact harsher punishments. The only way to "reset" it, is to stop leaving games.

Yeah, there isnt actually anything you can do;  since the game has such a troublesome community, they enforce whatever they can in an effort to keep some semblance of control, which ends up meaning that there isnt any lenience at all when it comes to leaving games and such.

It really is best to not even play it unless you have over an hour of time completely free.  It's just asking for trouble otherwise.  Same with Dota or... pretty much any of this genre, really.

Because these games are team efforts, it's not really fair to leave the game when everyone else has to finish it. If you can't put in the time commitment, I would recommend one of the shorter game types like dominion or something.

When I have 30 minutes I usually play awesomenauts due to shorter matches and a much smaller penalty for leaving games. By the way, what are the punishments for leaving a game of Smite or Dota 2, I just wanna know what they are compared to league.

Idk about DOTA. As for SMITE:

You lose Goodwill (which affects your favor generation, a free in-game resource that you use to purchase gods and certain skins).
You get a deserter penalty:
Quote
When you desert a match a 24 hour clock is started.
Each time you desert the clock starts over.
The first time you desert you get a 30 minute ban from joining match queues. Second time you get 60 minutes, then 120. Fourth time and above is 4 hours.
You must not have deserted for 24 hours to have your deserter count reset to zero.

It's pretty light for now but I suspect it'll be changed in the near future possibly.

DotA 2 also has low priority queue, but honestly it doesn't sound as brutal as Riot's. They don't intentionally force you to wait a specific amount of time before you can join a game, it just takes slightly longer to get into one (like 2-3 minutes longer max, sometimes it makes no difference), and it disables ranked queue.

The biggest punishment of playing low priority in DotA is ironically, playing with the other leavers, which tend to be DotA's 'worst of the worst'. If you can imagine.

I went to the actual Riot "Leaverbuster" page, here's what they had to say about it:

"WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT MY LEAVER LEVEL?
Make sure you can commit to upwards 40 minutes of uninterrupted play time before joining a match. If you find that you are having many instances of emergencies, disconnections, etc., please resolve these issues as best as you can."

https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/201752714-LeaverBuster-FAQ

Here's the thing dude, they say 40 minutes. If League games are honestly going on for an hour plus on a regular basis, I have a solution, stop playing League. That's unacceptable. I agree with you, they can't expect people with real lives (aka anybody who has a career, wife, kids, academic responsibilities, or really who isn't living in their mother's basement) just can't guarantee that they're going to have an hour to play every time they hop on, and Riot shouldn't honestly expect them to.

If League's formula is your style, I highly recommend Smite. The games are extremely similar. They both have the same lane setups almost exactly, the same champion roles (just renamed), they both have summoner spells, the jungle buffs, Dragon/Baron, starting items, stacking items, you name it, it's pretty much the same. However, the Smite games are shorter, faster pace, they're more action packed, and the game is vastly more balanced overall. The summoner spells are a perfect example. Flash (called Blink in Smite) is strong, but it's by no means overpowered from what I've seen.

As a long time League player you should fit right in. Sure it'll take a few weeks to get used to all the new characters and such, but once that's done, I highly doubt you'll look back.

DotA 2 is a lot more hardcore, the games are longer than Smite, and it's much more difficult to get into. There is a problem with the current length of DotA games as well, though I'm sure they're working on it for the next big patch. The difference is, the low priority queue doesn't intentionally force you to wait a certain amount of time if you can't finish a casual 70 minute game, it just makes you play with other people who are either trolls or have lives.

I'm sure you will learn the art of time management when you get a bit older. EDIT: Actually I'm not sure. I hope.

Yeah, it's best not to even bother trying with Dota 2 if you cant guarantee a large amount of time for it.  From what I hear from people I know that have been into the low priority thing, it's BEYOND terrible.  One of them just calls it the "bad queue".  Dota 2 is a troll magnet to begin with, and an incredibly strong one, but those that have actually been punished for being a troll basically get FUNNELED into that queue.  Add to this people that are likely to leave 10 minutes into the game, and players that just randomly go AFK at any moment, and, well...

The whole experience can be summed up like this:

League, of course, can be the same way.  If you were to smash the two together, the Trollpocalypse would be at hand.

the next time I leave a game
*facepalm*

Yeah, that's pretty much my thoughts on it too.

Dont forget:  With a game like this, when you do something like leaving a game abruptly, it's not just affecting you, but it's affecting the experience of everyone else in the match, both teammates and opponents alike, and can completely ruin the game for them.  Particularly with League or Dota, which have loooooooooong match times on average.  This alone, not the bad queue, is more than reason enough to NOT do it at all.

I personally never touch games like this unless I have a good 2-3 hours available; obviously they generally dont go THAT long, but it means I have plenty of time so that I dont even have to be the slightest bit concerned about it.

It's kinda rough expecting someone to give up a game they love though. I agree that I find Smite vastly superiour to League personally, but not everyone feels this way. But if you can't commit to 1 hour+ games, then I'm afraid there is no other option than to simply stop playing. Otherwise you are going to be screwing over a lot of people.
