I hate water
« on: August 01, 2012, 07:08:50 pm »
So yeah... I have been kind of cranky lately and that is because my heating installation .. particularly the part that fills water into the heating system decided to spill water for 4 minutes into my ceiling, and cellar, and everything from ceiling to cellar (electric channels). So i had an indoor submarine feel (water running out of lamps is always fun!).

And of course, it happened right smack at the start of the olympics, like literally, I was watching that when I heard the sound of running water where there should be no running water, inside the friggin wall!

Well, power I got back, and my heating works fine (heh) sadly, the room right beneath that ingeniously placed heating installation is ... ruined. Walls are all stained, and a nice weird "wet concrete" smell is abound, one I can't find the source (which means it's behind the wall ~.~)

So yeah.. just wanted to write that off my chest.

You may need to actually get in there, because you are going to have a mold problem if you don't have one already. The sooner the better. Not only can that make you incredibly sick, it can spread and create an even larger problem.

From 2 separate experiences in my life I can tell you most emphatically: do whatever it takes to prevent/eradicate the mold problem.  It can be really disastrous.

Leaks are always great.  We had an upstairs pipe leak and all the water went down through a heating duct.  Fortunately everything worked out okay.  The tv mounted on the wall downstairs was nice enough to catch all the water!!  Nothing else got wet.  :'(

??? Yeah that about sums up my feelings about this as well... it missed all vital electronics, thankfully, but there is a weird material used here which smells horribly when it gets wet so the room stinks, literally, it STINKS of plaster. Just hoping the glass-wool isolation isn't soaked.. but I will see that on monday.. when I will get the "price" for fixing it as well. And oh yeah, my insurance doesn't cover water leaks from the inside, like huh? Now I got one that does, but sadly only for future damage. I mean, I expect roof leaks, I expect floods, but this leak was neither ;/

And as another upside, the water tank where the hot water is .. heated? .. has a 10° tilt and THIS made my landlord order someone to fix near instantly. Apparently the moisture from the leak softened whatever cheap material the water tank is sitting on and now the whole thing has to be moved, the floor reinforced ... Thankfully I don't have to pay that. But it does look plenty scary.

So yeah, my last days been really fun. I have a whole new appreciation for people who suffer water damage, that really ain't funny.

There is a whole slew things one can't fully appreciate until they experience them themselves. True story.
