I am free! I dropped Firefox for good.
« on: July 10, 2012, 07:58:59 pm »
:D

Now this gonna be a short and epic pointless off-topic topic.

I dropped Firefox in exchange for Chrome (with lastpass and adblock+)

This was not a hard decision. First off, a new Firefox update completely broke the CSS for nearly a dozen of sites, including ArsTechnica and many other high profile sites. Secondly, Firefox had broken layouts everywhere mainly because it couldn't cope with Adblock+ and it's frame removal.

And these things combined finally pushed me over today.

And the transition is painfully easy, Chrome imports all my bookmarks, Lastpass handles all my passwords. I am finally browser independent. If crome pisses me off I can just go to some other browser then. But to me, Firefox is dead. With version 13 onward they forgot what a Browser is about, that is the user, and not adding pointless features that nobody needs while breaking compatibility with sites again and again. And let me repeat myself, but a browser that can not display all websites properly has absolutely no place on my PC.

the last notch in this was that I have an android phone, and you can imagine the rest. Try getting Firefox bookmarks or your browser profile synced across devices ^^

Reminds me of my last job when we got some bug report about "we upgraded from IE8 to IE9 and the reporting system displays weird now."

My response was something about how I didn't see that the broken part was the one I wrote...

Never did fix that one.

I moved to Chrome when Firefox kept having Java and Javascript issues, plus a weird lagging issue on my PC. I haven't looked back and now that Chrome is on iOS and works really well, I think I'm staying with Chrome for good. It does seem like Firefox has been losing its edge ever since they went to that fast-update system these days.

Also, I use Lastpass and man do I love that program, best thing ever.

I still think Firefox 3.6 was the best Firefox version ever, and after that it went downhill.

But in Chrome I got to admit the notifier icons you can install are extremely cool, mail / rss / calender next to each other that display new stuff that's how it should be. Now I just wish I could drag extensions in the new-tab page so that I can have my own rss feeds there, or several pages even, sort of like a mini-OS in the new-tab section.

That said, I do also love the styles you can use in Chrome, they look.. how to say it, much slicker... maybe because there is less clutter

Probably, I haven't changed my Chrome's theme yet, but considering there isn't much to change in the Chrome UI, I'll bet themes are designed better.

I also like the notifier icons. I have GReader going as well as G+, Wordpress and etc. Chrome is just sleek and fast which at this point, is all I really care about my browsing. Firefox has the most modifiability, but is hampered by constant problems that just don't make it fun.

Mozilla got only themselves to blame though, for me it all started with the change of how the predictive typing works in the navigation-bar, they changed in from Site-Name to Site-Domain that single change broke every single of my learned quick shortcuts (2 letter combinations that get you the wanted URL). And why did they do that? Because a single stupid developer thought that because Chrome does it, Firefox ought to do it too!

And since Chrome does the same thing this 1 change made it completely pointless for me to stick to Firefox. If I have to change my learned shortcuts and behaviors, I am doing it PROPER. And so far Chrome does everything better that I hated in Firefox, like font customization and font Size adaption, no more lagging tabs and a proper extension interface where extensions can interact with the GUI in a proper way.

I've used Chrome for about a year or two. Prior to that I switched between FF and Opera. I usually liked Firefox a lot, but it got heavier, more cumbersome and more bloated with every release, and in the end I couldn't stomach it anymore. Which is a shame, because it was really a great browser!

Yeah, kind of funny how that worked out too, I don't think anyone really expected for Chrome to bring so many people over to it so quickly.

Its a pity, I did like Firefox.

Mhh.. Like? I like things, animals and people, but software I use because it's useful and nice to use. I do not like software. If you show me software that does what my current software does 10 times better slicker and streamlined I will change if the resistance to that change is not too high (or otherwise reduced by simple all-or-nothing thinking).

There is 1 thing Chrome does not that Firefox does and that is RSS folders in the bookmark tab, but I can live around that with Google Reader I just have to get used to it (and side effect is my RSS feeds are now synced with my phone and do not drain my browser speed because everything updates in google reader). I now realize why Google cans google/IG - with chrome you have the functionality basically integrated into itself. Calendar access within browser, rss notifier to google reader and mail notifier to gmail all work together nicely. And it looks extremely slick and downright nice. 0 clutter or bloat.

I am actually really happy with Chrome. For the first time I look at a browser and see not a single icon or button I don't need and exactly those icons i absolutely do need (mail notifier icon and calendar icon). And this simplicity is what will make Chrome the market dominator

I like Visual Studio.  Best program ever written.

Fixed that for you ;)

Actually, the part that concerns me is not that they're indexing all that information, it's that the result is so useful I hover on the edge of wanting them to.

Amazon Drive gave me an offer $20/year for 20GB, but any music I store doesn't count towards my 20GB limit. Since most of what I want to store is music, this was a no brainer for me.
