Well, PA obviously wasn't everything we had hoped it would be, but I had a sneaking suspicion it wouldn't be on launch, given the scope and magnitude of the project, the size of the company, the funds they were working with, and the timeframe they were given. However, I have full confidence that they will continue to make the game better and better as time goes on. As a developer they have a good reputation for that. I do not regret my money whatsoever and I also look forward to what they have in store for the future!

When:

1) PA has a working offline mode (which they haven't, but probably will, since they publicly obligated themselves to it)
2) And they commit to making HR also have an offline mode (which they haven't yet, and may never, as they have no obligation to do so)

Then I'll consider backing/pre-purchasing HR.

PA's quality isn't what I'd hoped but I'm willing to keep backing them (at some rate, say $20 a game) because I think the overall result will be worthwhile.  But only if they keep their explicit promises on previously-backed projects, and the projects avoid silly DRM (i.e. always-online is tolerable for multiplayer-only, but is intolerable for single-player).

Ok, looks like they will follow through on the PA offline mode pretty soon: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/659943965/planetary-annihilation-a-next-generation-rts/posts/1009547

I didn't expect them to just blow it off, but I was beginning to suspect we might be looking at "3 months after release" rather than "1 month after release".  Happily, not so.

For better or worst, I am writing a self-essay about the nature of kickstarters and PA and HR are some core examples.

If only I was famous...someone might want to read it...

But it is good for me at least for if I open a business later.
Life is short. Have fun.

Still writing it, I am attempting to write it in a higher quality then I post here, but as a result I have to let ideas "ferment" for a little while to let them be well.  I just re read it with fresh eyes and it is not ready yet at all. I will warn you, it is long (1100 words so far)

I want also to read it. I have my own experience with kickstarter campaigns and I want to see if you had similiar experiences.
My biggest issue so far is the "A hat in time" disaster. The game looked so promising but the devolpers failed to deliver anything except HUGE amounts of advertisments. So far I'm regretting my decission to back them.

I thought A Hat in Time was still in development. What happened? (I didn't back it).

It is in development... Somehow.
However if you have purchased the Alpha you are waiting for nothing since everytime you ask about an update they just say "We don't know."
At the same time they advertise functions, ingame screenshots and other stuff that is currently not in the game like they advertise. Also they regulary let Let's Players play there game but each time a version that has more features as the stuff we actually have in the game.

What makes it for me so bad is that they don't seem to care about players, they just want to sell the game as often as possible, slapping on every single screenshot there slogan "You can now buy our game on our website".
I see no end to the development at the moment because they don't seem to release any updates or at leasr any information how far they are with development. Even the functions they show are no "We just finished this and this and are now working on this" blogs, they are just screenshots of something into the game with a random joke below. I fear that they don't have any idea how to proberly give out an alpha and that they are just advertisement geniuses but lack on anythign else. Ugh, I'm really upset with it.

Thanks! It means a lot. I intend to finish it tonight, but may not be able to finish editing it until tomorrow.

It's kind of amazing. You go to that link you've provided and all anyone can talk about is that they hope it comes out for the Wii U. Yet apparently the developer never confirmed it for the Wii U (or any other console for that matter), they just said they would give it a shot. So like how many people paid for this game in the pipe dream that it would come out on a Nintendo console via a company that has never even made a game before? Even if it does, and that's a big if, they made it clear that it will only happen AFTER the PC/MAC release, so I gotta say for the army of people waiting for that in particular, don't hold your breath.

That's actually a common issue, not only for AHiT. When a developer states that he maybe may port the game to another platform people try to force him that he develops faster the other versions, even before the main game is ready.
And at this state everyone should ask himsels actually where the game is. Since somewhere in may we got no new updates besides an "update" that held no new features and asking the developers what it was about left us as clueless as before.

The KS was canceled (I'd have to link to Kotaku, and I don't do that ,p)

Can't say that was surprising. People saw what Uber managed with PA and twice the Human Resources budget after all ;)

I really wanted to finish my essay tonight, but I'm bone tired from work and in a cankerous mood.

I will say this though. Even in the end, Uber finds some horrible ways to express themselves.

"As a small indie, we can’t continue spending time and money focusing on a project that won’t get funded. We simply don’t have the human resources. #seewhatididthere "

No. You got 2.2 million dollars up front for one game, and wanted another 1.4 million for another game, then play the sympathy card because you don't have the money to fund kickstarter.

Such passive-aggressiveness. I could swear like a sailor (part of the cantankerousness)

I will make one more attempt tomorrow to at least edit what I have, but if not it would be until the weekend, and I'd rather post some raw notes then wait until this issue has cooled
Life is short. Have fun.
