Hive (the board game)

I would hesitate recommending the computer game (early access, alpha) http://store.steampowered.com/app/251210, but I can wholeheartedly recommend the board game:

This is one of this abstract strategic games that are very simple to learn and hard to master. My family likes it alot and we play it regularly.

Briefly about the game: it's a 2-player game. There are black and white hexagonal pieces and no board. Players take turn to place or move the pieces (which all have insects on them). Each insect has it's own moving rules, but the overarching rule that all pieces on the table has to connect to each other at all times. The goal is to completely surround the "queen bee" piece of the opponent.

If 2-player abstract strategy games is your thing try the board game by all means.

The computer game looks quite unploished so far, but that's expected for the early access game. I don't particularly like how the pieces are presented in the computer game either. The physical one (I have the carbon version) though is simply gorgeous. The pieces are heavy, pleasant to touch and done in very simplistic style - I love them.

Ah, and also there is a book about the game strategy: http://www.playhivelikeachampion.com/
