GOG summer sale! 2013
« on: June 23, 2013, 06:30:49 pm »
What goodies did people pick up this year? :-)

I finished out my "Might and Magic" and "Heroes of Might and Magic" games. I like turn-based.

Birthday being soonish and all, I've been mostly saving stuff instead incase theres something I want to get afterwards. (except for Disharmony, getting that as soon as it comes out to see how much it affects endless space)
However I did pick up Fragile Allegiance, since I'd seen an LP of it recently and it is neat/cheap.

I picked up Freespace to play through it again.  Humming that sound track all the time, again.  Ran the first 10 or so missions then switched to running it through FSOpen with a modern texture pack and WOW that looks a lot more tolerable.  Though even the stock assets I was able to live with just to get back to that experience.  Now if only GoG could get its hands on Tie Fighter.

I've already got the first 6 Might and Magic's though GoG, 4+5 (they actually combine into one game) are really awesome and are much more turn-based than the later ones, though 7 was in many ways my favorite, and 8 was pretty good too.    If I had time to replay them I'd snap the rest up (the heroes-of series never really resonated with me though I did play III quite a bit, and much of IIs music is just sublime).  Same with Caesar III.

Would get SotS: The Pit because I'm fond of Roguelikes, but not really time for it.

There's kind of a common theme here, actually.

But yea, there's a lot of awesome stuff in that sale :)

I would try King of Dragon Pass if you haven't yet.

I feel like everything that I wanted to have from GoG I already have. Too many games to little time! =)

Oh, right, that does look very interesting.  I picked it up in a previous sale but didn't get around to playing it yet.

It's fun, but very easy to mess up. Plus toward the late game things get very unclear as to what to do.
Life is short. Have fun.

It's a little bittersweet seeing KoDP get some attention. I love the game and it deserves recognition, but part of me enjoyed having the game feel like a personal secret.

I picked up the turn based strategy pack and played some Master of Magic, Colonization and Alpha Centari over the weekend.  I may grab the Might and Magic or D&D pack if they come up again.  I'm also considering just grabbing Planescape: Torment by itself.

I think I'll pick up Freespace 1 + 2.  I've got the originals laying around somewhere, but it's easier to buy it at GoG than to find them. :D

Yeah. Not my best purchase, either. Terrible support by gog, too. When I mentioned that pressing the backspace key bugs out the game, their answer was don't press backspace. That kind of crap needs to be patched.

While they own the rights they don't always own the sources. Sometimes there is nothing they can do.

Just before the sale started, I was considering buying Might and Magic 7-8. Ended up buying the bundle with the whole series for 8$. That's a lot of RPG content right there.
