Games to play together on one PC
« on: November 17, 2012, 07:05:19 pm »
Guys,

what good games you know that can be played on a PC together? I do not mean hot-seat games. I mean the games you can play with two controllers.

I haven't tried it with two controllers but I think it's possible to do that on split-screen awesomenauts, which is on a steam free weekend right now.

In no particular order.

I think the worms games can, but those are technically hot seat. Not sure if you can use two controllers while taking turns or not. Either way you would have to check to confirm.

Awesomenauts does yeah.

Cortex command does, but I found the UI and controls so awful that I couldn't play more than 5 mins of it. Some people swear by it, so your mileage may vary.

Trine 1 does (its local only infact), and pretty sure trine 2 does too. Those are very nice platform/puzzler.

Nation Red does I believe. This is a very fun dual-stick shooter, that gets crazy hectic very fast, and has a surprisingly deep amount of customization and depth (hundreds of perks, a good variety of weapons, and a few game modes).

Apparently magicka does. Never played it myself, but I hear its fun to play multiplayer. Though it's on the buggy side.

You could also look into game emulators or old retro games (I know steam has some sega games rereleased on it)

Hope that's enough to get you started!

Most turn based games support hotseat, such as Civilization, Unity of Command, or if you want to go really old school, Battle Isle.

I think you can split-screen Serious Sam. Also, Trine, Chess, possibly Flotilla by Blendo Games. Or grab a 2600 emulator and play some Combat.

You can indeed split-screen Serious Sam.
To remove all doubts, you can also local play both Trines in three player format.

Most fighting games can be. I rather like the Touhou ones.

And because no one else has mentioned it, Tidalis from here can be played that way. ;)

Also while not a pc game, board games are a possibility.

Am curious what you decide to go with though.

Oh, haha, yea.  With all the work I had to do as my part of making that happen I should remember that feature ;)

I think I'll try it with Magika when I get the second controller, since I already own it, but others are too great suggestions. Trine is also quite appealing but then you need *three* controllers. I remember having a look at cortex command and immediately disliking it, but this was when I looked at at as a single player game, I should have another look.

If you can think of anything else, keep them coming, fighters... well I don't really like them that much.

Magicka with a CONTROLLER? That's like trying to play the piano with mittens on.
