I dropped eve the second i noticed how you have to play it to get anywhere, it isn't a game, its a job. Corporations and Mining, alone the fact that skill learning is time based means this isn't something you can play casually. And its easy to make money if you know how, but the problem is unless you are being tutored by a elite player you will pass so many ways to make money without ever learning about them, and if you aren't into the game 6+ Months you won't learn them either. Eve is the prime example of how NEVER to do a Tutorial.

I knew many people who didn't know what blueprints they find are good for, or how much they are worth to the right people. And of course, those people weren't going to say. The only way you ever learn the true worth of stuff is if you run your own corporation. And this is not how an game economy should function.

To each their own, I guess. Eve definitely doesn't have mass appeal to casual gamers, or it would be more successful than it is. But I dont think the design is inherently bad.
Time to roll out another ball of death.

Well its a good simulation.. but is it really a fun game? Opinions differ ;p

Imo a game where corporate abuse and industrial espionage is part of the gameplay is a recipe to depressed gamers. I said it many times before but i think Eve would be the far better game without any other players ;) Ie, as a SP Game.

I just want to look at space battles and do basic trading. It took me 2 hours of thinking to make 150 million credits in eve (on my free trial ,p). I didn't even move my ship, just trades. That was fun, but the problem is i don't want to play a trading simulation (which is kinda required if you don't join a corporation).

If you don't have time for a corporation then you might as well never bother with eve. Which is why, i think it would be far superior as SP game with story missions and lots of free-roaming dynamic universe.

sigh, they really need to develop more space simulation games... all there are those oldies [but goodies].
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

I agree.
However, if you really want a space sim then Orbiter is the thing.

Best space sim I have ever played. Nothing comes close.
The highest learning curve in any game I have ever played. Also probably the most satisfaction I have  ever got from achieving even basic goals. Very rewarding. In my top 5 games ever. Built for modders, excellent community (nearly as good as AI War community ;) ) - I even got back into coding so I could write custom MFD's.

As far as burn out goes, I don't know if I would have burned out, what finished it for me was I had no PC for a few months and when I tried to get back in to Orbiter I just couldn't face re-learning all the stuff I had forgotten.

I've found lately, with the resurgence of old games I've been playing thanks to GoG, the older ones (Particularly DOS era) are SO much more in depth and featured than modern day stuff. Makes me miss the good old days :(
