80% off on Steam atm
Seriously, you'd be rather crazy not to pick those two up now. If only to get the absolutely kick ass soundtrack in both high bitrate MP3 and FLAC.

The soundtrack can be bought separately, if you absolutely want. But the game is great too and you get the soundtrack with the game if you buy it.

I tried Frozen Synapse a while ago and while I thought it was cool I didn't get past the first (or second, I forget) mission because it was basically "meticulously plan, run a bunch of simulations that look really promising, commit turn, die horribly".

Any pointers to a guide/etc for "How to enjoy..." Frozen Synapse?

Take into consideration the other team :P They get to move too. It's all about trying to anticipate what they'll do and try to outsmart them, rather than making your simulations perfect.

If you ever played Laser Squad Nemesis back in the day, this is the same thing.

Yes, I noticed they didn't have the courtesy to sit still, but taking this into account did not greatly ameliorate the fact that at least half my team would be dead by the end of the first turn :)

To be quite honest, without seeing what you are doing, I can't really say much than "Get better!" :P

You should probably post a screenshot. Sometimes the best thing in this game is to find a defensible point or set of points that completes a "field of view," where you basically have the drop on everyone.

I don't know if you're doing it or not, but you do know that you can simulate moves for the enemy team as well, right? I got my best results by simulating the best possible things I could think of for the other guy to do first, then building my responses around that. Although if you're playing vs another human player, sometimes I found it was better to assume that they were going to do sort of... dumb things. If you can make your moves encompass all scenarios, from the genius level player to the monkey pushing random buttons, then you're set. It doesn't always work perfectly, but when you commit to that next turn and watch your units dance circles around the enemy and shoot them all in the back of the head, you will feel like a tiny tactical god.

I've always rather liked FS, just never was very good. A friend gifted me Red when it went on sale. I cannot wait for the matchmaking servers to calm back down so I can play it.

Feel free to shoot me a challenge. I am Volatar ingame as usual.

I bought it today but Logging in isn't working for me. It just sits on "Logging into grand server." It looks like a great game but I can't play it. That said, the soundtrack is great.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

There's a button on the login window for playing offline if what you're going for is the tutorial or singleplayer campaign.

I did give it another try and with simulating the enemy moves (curious how I missed that being possible before) I was able to at least achieve a Kill-to-death ratio greater than 1 on the first singleplayer mission, though I had to stop midway and (understandably) there's no mid-mission-save (unless I missed it), so I'll have the opportunity to repeat the performance ;)

That was pretty much my experience with the game. I didn't really get into it enough to want to get better at it.

I've been playing offline for the campaign but I'd like to experience getting slaughtered by intelligent opponents online as well. Oh well, maybe their servers are just under high load.

Yeah, the Steam sale brought in several thousand new players. Compare that to the previous daily peak of about 150 players (on the UK server, the one everyone plays on).

The login works now, must have been server overload. It's a HARD game. I can't even find the simulate enemy moves button, that would make my life easier.
