The spammers are taking over… Let's go back to the way it was?

Last version still had spammers too...ugh.

Nice look, but we need to combat the spamming problem

We need at least another layer of defense on first post and account reg

Its actually funny, but upgrading to newer version also means that now all spam scripts work on this forums version properly... but even then you'll never defeat the bored spammers who are actual real people, and just gamble on the "throw the paint and something will stick somewhere" effect.

For them, making registration a mild pain and the first post in best case, more moderated than 2-X posts, would solve a lot of these issues

Yeah, I just cleaned up a lot of spam posts and accounts. Very frustrating. I wonder if adding a simple question to registration would help at all.

Yeah, I HAD set up some security questions, but it turns out then also have to specify "how many to use" out of them, which I didn't do.  We used to use a third-party tool for the verification questions in pre-SMF-2.0, and that's what had cut our spam down to just a couple of posts per day, but without that in 2.0 the flood came in.  Now I've got that configured properly, and hopefully we should be getting back to the pre-2.0 levels of spam or better.

Well, that would explain why everything looks so weird.  The old theme is slightly more broken but significantly less ugly, so I guess that'll have to do for now.  Heh.

Not that I had anything to do with the new theme, so it makes very little difference to me in a personal sense, but what do you think is ugly about the new theme?  I really quite like it.

If there are other SMF 2.0 themes that people would like us to install so that they can be used, though, feel free to post links to them and I'll try to include them as options.

I'm mostly indifferent toward the actual design/layout of it, but the colors bug me.  Orange and/or beige with blue has always grated on me.

I actually kind of wonder whether it's just personal taste or in some way related to my particular flavor of mild partial color blindness, because I usually have pretty good aesthetic sensibility for stuff like this, with a few weird exceptions like that particular color pairing.

There was a similar color scheme (roughly the same blues, but leaning more toward beiges rather than bold orange) somewhere else that really stood out to me as irritating that a decent minority of people disliked but most liked or didn't notice at all.  Never got together enough people with different kinds of visual defects to test the idea, though.  Heh.

That is really interesting, actually -- I imagine that certain flavors of color blindness could certainly make things clash that otherwise wouldn't.  As I said, if there's a general SMF 2.0 theme that you find more visually pleasing, feel free to post a link and I should be able to install it as an option for those that don't like the main theme.  But I just can't guess what will please everyone, and I'm short on time these days. ;)

You should add "1+1-1" as a security question again.

I did.  ;D

With the added note "Please read carefully, it's easy." on it.

Hmm I typed in my standard shortcut... and some strange unknown page appeared.
I quickly figured out that some dev dropped new forum and then was.. like ... awww they killed the next page link. Thats one more SMF forum that has no next page button for me then :|
