Well, you said it, and it sparked me saying "For the love of god, turn them off." I used to think that them being on wouldn't really hurt. All it could do is help, right? No siree, it actually inhibits your aiming and just confuses you. That's what it does to me.

Especially mouse acceleration. That thing is the spawn of the devil. Nothing makes me miss more than that horrific thing :P

Depends on implementation. Turning up mouse acceleration on the original counterstrike was essential at the time.

And this is one of those non-discussion threads. Everyone knows mouse and keyboard FPS > controller FPS.  This doesn't mean it's more enjoyable, "better," or that anyone that uses a controller is a care bear casual gamer… it simply means that the precision of a mouse will destroy the precision of a controller every time. Every time. Every time. This is because of simple body mechanics of the wrist that you cannot duplicate with the thumb along with repetitive stress injury issues.

Goodness me, right thread at the right time. Last two months I have been meditating on getting an xbox controller for my PC. Many games now a day say "recommended with a game pad" but I still was not able to convince myself. Now I almost did.

For some games, it really is as awesome as joysticks were back in the day. I'm officially a convert :P

Zespri, if you've got the money to spare, go ahead and get an xbox 360 pad. There are more than enough games available on PC, it's likely that you'll end up using it. More options the better, after all. I don't see a reason to really devote yourself to KB/M or gamepad. It just depends on the game.

To be frank, the stock XBox controller isn't even expensive. I think I paid like $35 for mine.

It's also a piece of shit. I burned through one of those in about three months playing dead or alive 3 back in the day. By the end of the year, three controllers went bad. You may want to invest in something quality and with better construction. Those buttons just can't handle the abuse, and I even had the thumbsticks go bad.

As a side note, my original PlayStation 3 (fat!) controllers still work without any damage!

I have used PS controllers from 1 to 3.

The one I used / abused the worst, the ps 2 one, had at worst a joystick that would spin. After 1000 hours of use though, having that be the worst happen was not bad at all.

My PS3 controller is still as good as new after 4 years.
Life is short. Have fun.

What do you do to your controllers to break them? I've had the same one for several years now.

Dead or alive 3, all by itself, ruins controllers. I used to hang out with some guys that were really hardcore into that particular fighting game, and we had some really obsessive marathons trying to perfect that title.  It's not even a button mashing fighter. The Xbox controller is just trash.

To this day, I would say it is the best and most balanced fighter I have ever played, and the best fighting system.

That's impressive.

I half expected throwing them around the room in a rage at a narrow loss or something.

I never tossed, and neither did my friends. It was competitive, but we were really careful with the controllers because they were such crap.

I have a couple fighters for the PlayStation, also, and the controllers are as good as new.

I also haven't had controllers really go bad either. But, playing a lot of Rock Band Blitz made me have at least a couple problems with a few buttons. They just aren't meant to handle certain types of abuse. The reason I recommend 360 pads though is because of just certain ways that games can end up being; meaning, they can just be ports from 360 without rebindable keys. In which case, you want the 360 pad because the developers didn't bother to make anything else work on it. It's really just to compensate for the laziest of devs.

If that is the issue, get xpadder or glovepie.
