Nice monitor :)

When it comes to screens I don't think that either console suers or pc users will win the race. The technic should be the same. But I'm not an expert, so what do I know?

In the meantime I still have to work with this tiny screen on my desktop because I have no space for somethign bigger. Curel world.
But at least I ordered a new, better pc.

I figured that login screen was appropriate when I spend 2x the price of a new PS4 on a freaking monitor. ;)

Holy shit, that's expensive. But I guess the visuals are amazing to look with this screen.

Its one of those double-wide curved monstrosities.
So of course it's expensive.

Yes, ridiculously so. In my local currency it cost 11 000 SEK, which is about $1 315. Though I "only" paid 8 500 SEK ($1 000) during black friday. And yeah, the experience is almost worth it. ;)

Yea, I imagine the closest thing you get to out-of-the-box support is a log file message saying "You have how many pixels?"

To be fair, both 720p, 1080p, 4k and 8k standards are 16:9 and all TV's are 16:9 (there are other resolutions with 16:9 too, more pixels is always good, as long as they all stick to the default AR) ^^ And vector GUI is such a colossal pain that you can't blame developers for not going that route. And if you got a sprite catalog, which a TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON of console games do, then making them higher res for anything not 16:9 is like, literally impossible ;(

And as someone who had non standard AR for a long time, I know what suffering this brings.... terrible terrible suffering. Especially when you wanna watch a movie or a youtube video... ^^

This is exactly why I still have a smaller monitor.  Could have gotten a bigger one, but... I know that all sorts of derp comes with getting games to properly USE it. And I don't have much patience.  So just the usual 1920x1080 resolution for me.

But I did get one that rotates 90 degrees.  Shmups in vertical mode!  Good for pinball too.

I cant even imagine that ultra gigantic one trying to rotate... someone would get hurt, surely.  Chaos would ensue.

It also looks really heavy.

One question I wonder about... why are they often curved like that?
: Re: Finally got myself a new monitor...the reaction was only natural.

Curved is required at those super widescreen AR, if they didn't curve em you'd have view angle issues left/right I think?
Either way, yeh, that is basically why I also opted for 16:9, and you also need to take into account pixel density vs how close you sit to the screen vs how large the screen is and stuff like that....

Mind you it's a very good screen OP got ;) But I wasn't joking with that AR comment, support for ultra widescreen is abysmally bad in games.

Yeah, they're curved for viewing angle reasons. So that the screen still feels "head on" when you gaze towards the edges.
It's the same reason that if you have a three monitor setup, you angle the outer two inwards.

I actually got to sit in front of one of these monstrosities about two weeks ago. You can't even notice the curvature, it feels so natural.

To be fair, I was surprised how many games handled the resolution gracefully. I've only encountered maybe 1 or 2 games (ironically enough, both AAA games) that had black bars on the sides, and one game that did some horrible scaling of the graphics.

So while I understand I'm absolutely a tiny minority, I'm still pleased with how well it works. And shout outs to Hollow Knight. That game really handled the monitor resolution beautifully with a combination of scaling and increasing the viewport.

And yeah, the curvature is natural. I don't even think about it. That said, I guess it's a touch overkill for an IPS panel, as they have *great* viewing angles. Though I can imagine it looking a bit off if it wasn't curved...I dunno.

But yeah, movies and youtube is where the monitor suffers the most (black bars everywhere), but considering I mostly just shove youtube or a movie on one side of the monitor and do actual work on the other, it doesn't bother me.

It's really a joy having almost another million pixels to work with without that stupid gap in the middle (compared to my previous set up with two 1920x1080 monitors).

Yeah you can be lucky or you can be unlucky, for giggles you could start AI War 1 or a game that has 4:3, on my new screen I noticed that I can't even see text inside the small windows (too small), and full-screening dosbox.. yikes , then you can read stuff, but you better enjoy black bars.... and 4x larger pixels although it still looks pretty good with no filtering ;/

Such fancy screens, not just wide-AR, are always gonna hit one or two issues you never thought about. For older games (Specifically older Anno games come to mind) it's not AR support, it's the size of the GUI elements (they scale down the wider the AR is.... ) in Anno 2050 for example, the build menu occupies around 3% of the screen, really iffy to use that. And the money indicator is at the top left, but you only see what an item costs at the mouse pointer build location. So yeah, ups and downs ;/ I debated for a while whether ot get wide-ar or normal AR, and my laziness in not wanting to move my head resulted in a "standard" 16:9 (2560x1440@144hz though) and speaking of HZ, japanese console ports handle non-standard AR and refresh usually extremely badly.

Oh well, enjoy your screen ;) Hopefully it will last you many a year.

Yeah, Terraria looks ok on this monitor, but I was disappointed with how they handle the resolution. The scaling is insane. The player sprite is like 10 cms high. XD It's a perfect example of a game that does not handle this gracefully.

Just tested AI War, btw. It wasn't too bad. It just doesn't make very good use of the increased viewfield. (lots of empty space). But nothing was so small I couldn't read it and nothing was blurry. Tbh, it's one of the games that rather gracefully handles the increased resolution. Not sure what your problem was with AIW?

Got myself now a new monitor too. My old one didn't work on my new pc. Ugh, so much money in such a short amount of time.

Yeah, tell me about it. I mean, sure, mine wasn't a required purchase (it was strictly luxury) but it still stung. I was considering a 4K monitor first, because I would've loved to have the extra desktop space to work on. But since I play games as a hobby, running a 4K monitor on anything recent, requires at the very least a 1080 Ti, preferrably two.

That, plus monitor, would've cost me almost $2500. Not. Happening.

Maybe because of 2560x1440 but I found the text to be pretty dang small for relaxed playing ;/

Then again, I run 90% of websites at 120% zoom and have changed my opinion about what a acceptable font size in GUI's is quite a lot since I got this screen.... (my good old CRT died.. after only 10 years continuous use .. sigh)

I'm at 3440x1440 (and also getting goddamn old), but I actually found the text size to be completely legible. (Something which can't be said for the summary below the posting window, holy balls that's ant-sized text on this monitor). Some games tend to overcompensate with the scaling though. I can't remember one of the top of my head (I've tested like 50+ games in the last week or so), but some games really blow the letters up to ridiculus proportions at this resolution. "Oh you have a large monitor, better turn it into a freaking billboard so you can read it from across the street!"
