Yeah, watched that one. He seems to be of the same opinion as me. "Nice, but not enough."
Which is a fair sight better than most of the other 4X (edit: space 4X) offerings I've seen lately.
Very true. They've been more in the "Steaming pile of poo" category.
A "Pile Of The Stars 2" parody would be amusing ;)

Endless Space is 50% off on Steam this weekend.  Check it out if you are a 4X fan.

Now it appears to have gone back up to regular price.

Well I saw it on sale for at least a couple minutes, so someone definitely got a deal!

Meh... when I saw the notification on twitter, I went to get it, as for 50% off I would, but it was not on special any more (as described in the links above), I can't convince myself to buy it for the full price.

Ok, it's 50% off again, but steam is not letting me to buy it - says - you've already got this game. Is this normal when a game is free to play for a weekend?

Is it any good now?

I haven't heard whether they've been working on it or not.

They've been working on it, and it is improving.  However, there are still some major flaws in it (auto-battle being the worst, simultaneous turns the second).  I'd hold off for a year or so, and try again when the game is complete.
This weekend is a "free play" weekend, so try it out.  Read the official forums as well, to get an idea if you'll like it or not.

I'm still waiting for the diplomacy to not suck and for there to be some manner of espionage and other forms of hurting your enemies without directly fighting them (A thing I rather enjoy doing in other 4X games).

Also, am I the only one who thinks their response to the Steam thing was a little silly? They didn't want to have a sale because people who buy the boxed copy won't also get the discount? Isn't that kind of the point of digital distribution and Steam sales and all that?

Played it.  Wasn't that impressed.

I just started a game with the default settings, then it took me through (what I consider) a fairly lengthy tutorial on all the details.  Took me about 15 min to get the gist of things, then I started going around colonizing planets.

Designed my own offensive ship.  Set my scouts to auto-explore, then kind of just waited around for awhile.  Literally after 50 turns, I still hadn't entered a single battle, which is just sad.  Maybe I simply don't have the patience for 4X games.

I finally entered a battle and was really let down.  The entire thing was like a rollercoaster ride; you just watch the action but have basically no control over what happens.  The "card" aspect I thought was somewhat of a joke.  It's like deciding a battle based on a more complex form of Rock-Paper-Scissors or whatever.

It's obvious that the developers have a lot of passion and put a ton of work into this game, but it's just not my cup of tea.  Too much planning and work for too little action or interest.  It's like a worse form of Civilization V, in space.

Yea; I think it's decent (compared to the total-flops we're getting used to in the space-4X world), but "It's like a worse form of Civilization V, in space." is about how I feel about it too.  But I wish the developers well, this could be a good step in the right direction.
