Endless Space 2
« on: September 17, 2017, 05:52:16 pm »
Endless Space, but better, basically. Enjoying it. Most of the systems make intuitive sense, although the government part of things is constantly something I wrestle with. I try to do one thing, and it ruins my government. So no, you can't be Gandhi with battle cruisers. Anyone else enjoying it?

It doesn't claim to solve all 4x problems, but I think it's really cool for what it is. There's a lot here to chew on.

You can't be gandhi with ships? Did you try being Gandhi with nukes instead. I know from my experience with other games that it may work  :P

Let me know how it holds up after 100 hours of game play. Endless Space got super bland after that long.

I have a few hundred hours of AI war. Can't wait to do that again with  AI war 2.

But for other games, I consider 100 hours to be good value. The only thing that feels weird so far is the government changing depending on what I'm doing. For example, if I have to start pumping out battleships, there goes the planet to a bunch of militarists. Still trying to figure out, how can I be a progressive society but wage war if necessary. Is that possible with this game? I don't know.

Other than that, initiating the siege process feels difficult. You need to have the right technology and be ready to move your troops, but it's not clear right off which technologies you need and how to get that going without tipping your hand to the AI.

No chance of ambush, really.

This is a 4X game, so the emphasis is not on combat, but there is a huge difference from endless space 1. No more tactical cards. Everything now has to do with ship design, preparation, and pre-battle tactics that you set up. Requires certain military research.

And like every other 4X, I feel like once you go down the military track, you are locked into it because the game systems are hypersensitive to military activity.

Most games I'd agree with you. Endless Space I feel like I didn't get as much out of it as I wanted.  I had to check how many hours I had and I was honestly surprised it was a smidge over 100. I was expecting more like 25 or 50.

Really loving the game as it is now. It is a really slick 4X in the Endless Universe. It actually manages to get a decent space opera feel. So for me as someone who loves it, great!
Life is short. Have fun.
