So I spent a bit more time with this game, and while I can see what others might like about it, this is not a game for me. It's not even about me not having the patience for the learning curve, although it does play certain part. It's about the overall game design. It feels... too restrictive. I mean they put a lot of numbers in the game, a lot of different resources, a lot of different stats, but then they limit you in these, without a good way for grow. Say, you want sandstone to build something and you don't have it. Well sucks to be you, you either need to hope that you'll loot it from a monster dead body (although I have not seen a monster dropping sandstone), or, more reliably build whatever you want to build from
another resource. Of course you do not have it either right now, but may be if you research you'll get 10 of it as a bonus, and
hopefully some of it will appear on the map, so you can make an expedition to go there, survive the way there, survive time necessary for gathering and then survive your way back. I have not got that far - that I did not have patience for.
Resources is just one example. Your people attributes is another. There is no way to get attributes you'd like or raise attributes you'd like.
The whole game is about that you have to make do with whatever you have. To me it feels too slow paced - a horrible painful slog.
That's really a shame.
As a side line, another disappointment of the day is Dying Light. I know that a lot of people enjoy it, including Chris, but I just can't see the appeal. If the controls where a bit more convenient, I might like it, but the "sprint" auto turning off every time you stop is a downer. You either need to press sprint all the time, or, in the toggle mode, you need to toggle it on every time you start moving, both ways wears me down pretty quick. The mechanic of jumping up to a ledge and the pulling yourslef up I also find extremely clanky. I have no idea, why in half of the case you can do it in a single movement (without releasing the jump key) and in the other half you just keep hanging and need to release the jump key and press again, and
then you pull up. Anyway, that's offtopic in this thread.
