Endless Legend
« on: May 11, 2014, 01:09:51 am »
If you have heard of Endless Space, you can guess what this is: Its Master of Magic to Master of Orion. Aka fantasy 4x spin off of a scifi 4x.

Its not finished game yet, but out of all early access games I've seen so far, its pretty darn stable for game that isn't even an alpha. Crappy AI at the moment though and still clearly unfinished.

As far as I remember Endless Space was not that great, was it?

Great interface, but the developers were tone deaf when it came to balance.

Yeah, the only community feedback they listen to is the GAMES2GETHER vote-doodad, which is awful for a number of reasons.  It's great for deciding on a stylistic choice, but terrible at baaasically anything else.

I hate that thing. One of the "features" voted on in Endless Space was to have the random selection for A.I. opponents be distinct choices, but since that option lost (to whatever, I don't know), what should have been a brain dead fix was "oh sorry, that's not what got voted for". It's like playing against random opponents in Civilization and ending up with France, France2, Germany, Germany2, Germany3...

Its not even that g2g options suck often, sometimes it feels like that their community managers gives no crap about the community considering how much they interact with community. At least considering amount of effort they put into community design event.

They somehow managed to have forum poll include an entry that wasn't supposed to be entry. Which is clear if you read the post.

I bought ES and the expansion, too, and...god damn was I ever as disappointed. It's not even pretty - the graphics are high-quality, but the design is utterly uninspired. And there's so little game inside, it just feels like an over-designed wrapping around a whole lot of nothing.

So no, endless legend can kiss my behind.

Game design by committee is imo the worst way to design a game. Someone needs to have a clear vision or otherwise you end up with no vision at all. And yeah Community votes for bug-fixes vs features.. ... sigh

They had a clear vision.

It just sucked.

Mostly because they felt the need to design three times as much Stuff and have the community decide which version went in.  Like, why write three back-stories for heroes and only put one in the game?  Just add all three!
