I liked the books, but then I learned that the author is kinda an asswipe.

Holy shi*, did anyone else known that Orson Scott Card is a homophobic bigot?

http://www.salon.com/2013/05/07/sci_fi_icon_orson_scott_card_hates_fan_fiction_the_homosexual_agenda_partner/singleton/

Learning this recently has like ruined the books for me in retrospect.

Quote
Those who claim that there is "no danger" and that homosexuals are born, not made, are simply stating their faith.

The dark secret of homosexual society -- the one that dares not speak its name -- is how many homosexuals first entered into that world through a disturbing seduction or cuddly hug  or molestation or abuse, and how many of them yearn to get out of the homosexual community and live normally.

It's that desire for normality, that discontent with perpetual adolescent sexuality, that is at least partly behind this hunger for homosexual "marriage."

They are unhappy, but they think it's because the rest of us "don't fully accept them."

Homosexual "marriage" won't accomplish what they hope. They will still be just as far outside the reproductive cycle of life. And they will have inflicted real damage on those of us who are inside it.

They will make it harder for us to raise children with any confidence that they, in turn, will take their place in the reproductive cycle. They will use all the forces of our society to try to encourage our children that it is desirable to be like them.
Unbelievable.

edit:
Quote
[W]hen government is the enemy of marriage, then the people who are actually creating successful marriages have no choice but to change governments, by whatever means is made possible or necessary… Regardless of law, marriage has only one definition, and any government that attempts to change it is my mortal enemy. I will act to destroy that government and bring it down….
LOL, what a revolutionary.

Knowing that is old news to me. The books were decent, but I'm not that annoyed about it when I read them out of the library, I didn't buy them.

I guess it comes down to whether or not you should let the author/creator's political/personal views affect the content he/she has made. This is something I debate over a lot and don't have an easy answer for.

If I let an author's/actor's/musician's politics get in the way of my enjoyment of a particular book/movie/song I'd hardly ever read/watch/listen to anything.

That said, I think there is little hope that an acceptable movie adaptation can be made of Ender's Game in today's Hollywood.  I mean, it looks like they showed the destruction of the bugger's homeworld in the trailer.  WTF?  ::)

Still, as one of my top 10 sci-fi novels, I hope it's awesome!  8)

From what I understand, the kid that is playing ender is 16? (and a dota player) isnt that a tad old :\

It is a major miracle Hollywood didn't cast a 27-year-old.

He may be 16 but he doesn't look much older than 12.

I think a lot of the enjoyment of the movie (for me), will be how well they hide the final "plot twist" at the end. I swear, if it's obvious that Ender knows the whole time, I'm going to walk out of the theater. Bonus points if they show the part where Bean figures it out but doesn't tell anybody, though my hopes are certainly no where near that high.

Showing the destruction of the Homeworld in the end doesn't mean that Ender knows what's going on yet :D

In the book he was so exasperated at that point that he was basically willing to try anything just to get the training over with.

He said on reddit that unless you have read the books, the significance of the moment is completely lost to the viewer, and its just another explosion.. which is pretty accurate.

I refuse to see the movie then.

I won't refuse to see it, but I certainly won't watch it in the theater.  But then, very few movies are worth that trouble.

Especially when so many movies insist on being in 3d.
