*Shrug* I guess I don't need your approval.
Goodness, if anyone needed eRe4s3r's approval they'd be up a creek!  That's a grand-champion complainer right there!

(that's meant as a compliment actually, those complaints have driven much of the improvement in our games, particularly in the graphical area)

The world needs critics! Keith personally knows how much of a critic I can be ;p

Hehe ;) Well not everyone can like everything. I guess I am just not made for DOTA, I already didn't like it beyond map revision 3 in WC3...

With The International 2 Tournament coming up in about 2 weeks (YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!), Steam has released a free spectator client for anybody who hasn't made it into the beta yet.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/570/

If anybody wants to watch the tournament in the ultimate high definition (game quality), and doesn't own the game, here ya go.

That... is such an awesome idea.

Valve's becoming more of a scary beast if they haven't been already. The best team based shooter (arguably) is free to play, the next DotA, with triple-A VALVE-quality polish, is free to play with everything unlocked... including a free spectator program to watch tournaments on in the highest of definition. Steam's gotta be earning them buckets upon buckets of money... the buckets being made of gold, of course.

Scary as that is... spectator program is awesome. I'd use it if my computer did things... and also I guess if I could get commentary over the games like at a real event.

Yea, at this point I think Valve has swimming pools full of smaller swimming pools which, in turn, are full of gold coins.

And we're loving every minute of it.

It's part of their plan for word domination, the fact that they are going to put non-game software on steam as well means that potentially someday the world will be using "Steam Word" and "Valve PowerPoint" on their computers, completely for free.

The International 2 Preliminaries are on now.

If you downloaded the spectator client, you can use that to watch them, or you can go here:  http://www.dota2.com/international/prelims/watch/

Also, they've added this really cool "team banner" mechanic.  You buy the banner for your favorite team, then each game shows how many "supporters" a team has as they are watching the livestream.  In addition to showing which teams have more supporters, people who have bought a banner have a chance of winning items while watching their favorite team!

By the way there's a checkbox option on the top right to turn off "spectator chat", if you don't want to see what people are saying during the match.

All the matches can also be rewatched, by clicking the "Prelims" tab and finding the match that interests you.
