Two big problems with this remake.

  • The field of view feels different and smaller. This makes it harder to react and position.
  • All of the units seem to move a lot faster than the original mod, making defensive play harder

I don't think I will be playing it.

Yes. It feels more like the original Defense of the ancients than the "sequel." I'm also an extremely good player.

League feels more like DotA than DotA 2?  You've gotta be kidding me.

Not even a little bit. I played the original almost everyday way back when. Look at the mechanics of the game beyond what the map looks like, and you'll see it if you played the original.

I've probably played at least 1,000 hours of each (DotA, HoN, and LoL).  Still working on my playtime for DotA 2.

Anyway, I just don't understand how you can think LoL is more like the original DotA.  DotA 2 is literally DotA with better graphics and matchmaking.  Almost everything else is exactly the same, to the point that they added input delay to make it more like the original map.

If DotA 2 doesn't feel like DotA to you, it's most likely that you haven't played DotA in a long time, as the map has undergone quite a few changes and improvements since it was first released (I've been playing it for 9 years).  I'd imagine that if you haven't played it for 4-5 years, it may seem completely different to you.

Still, LoL just seems like watered down DotA, I don't ever remember it feeling like that.  Though granted, it was a lot simpler before.  They've definitely added a lot of complex mechanics since the beginning.

You have got to be kidding me. Why would you do that?

Because Warcraft 3 was a flawed and outdated engine.  DotA didn't need changed, it's been developed and balanced for over 9 years now, it's still the best ARTS out of the main three.

It's not that uncommon for competitive games to force delay onto their players.  Starcraft 2 is one of the most competitive RTS games ever made, and they force a certain amount of delay on purpose to give everybody an equal chance (game shouldn't be decided by who has the better latency).

The delay of DotA 2 is significantly less than its predecessor, but it's still there.  Nothing else about the game has changed, because nothing else needed to change.  New features such as reconnect, stats, matchmaking, leaver protection, spectator mode, and more have been added.

I would've probably jumped on all of these new MOBA-style games (DotA2, SMITE, Awesomenauts etc) if it wasn't for the absolutely "from the pits of hell" community they attract. Not to mention lack of time. Playing competitively in Tribes is already consuming several hours a week.

Yeah, generally you can only play one "competitive" game at a time, and it costs you most of your other gaming.

All MOBA games seem to have the same problem. The community is absolutely horrible. I'm forced to play with people whos IQ is ~30 lower than mine. It gives me a headache. I'm supposed to "carry" my team in every game which isn't always possible. Sure if I play well I will eventually get better rank. The enemy team has 5 potential retards while my team has 4. I can just do my job well and pray. If 1 player in my team rage quits, disconnects, refuses to communicate, stay together, trolls or whatever it's gg and there's nothing I can do about it. Most players don't understand anything about strategy and can't ward or last hit. Most players also seem to suffer from the Dunning-Kruger effect. That's why Starcraft 2 is much better as competitive game. If you lose it's 100% your fault and you can look at the replay and find out why you lost. In MOBAs it's 20%/player. If your top lane gets camped, bottom lane feeds, your jungler has a thumb up in his ass and you're winning your lane. You're 5-0-2 and you have 50 more cs than your laning opponent.. it doesn't matter. You will lose. It's 1v9. MOBAs are grinding.. just have to grind trough the idiots like levels in wow or diablo 2.

In League of Legends in addition to ELO players should be sorted by their IQ. COD kids would play with other COD kids, goats with goats, a-holes with other a-holes, normal people with other normal people etc.

Hell.. all the horrible people in MOBAs should be tracked down and sterilizated before they lay eggs.

Maybe I'll start playing LoL again in the future when I can make 4 clones of myself.

To enjoying any multi-player team game:

Step 1: Disable voice and chat.
Step 2: Enjoy!

In LoL, this actually works.  Nothing anyone says is of any value in solo queue.  Unfortunately this disables pings which are the best method of communicating in LoL.  A decent option is to just drag the chat box off screen.

Of more concern to me with this genre is actually John Gabriel's Greater Internet Theory.

I don't mind losing (and I wouldn't consider those teammates who caused me to lose as appropriate targets of negative-eugenics), but I'd like to have fun doing it.  Getting fussed at (to put it mildly) isn't fun for me.

You know, if Ubi/EA/Activision/etc really want to cut straight to the chase of putting stuff in their games that actively hurt enjoyment, they could ditch the DRM and just include a mandatory always-on voice chatroom with currently online players of MOBA or Manshoot games.  That would teach us wily customers! ;)

In Dota 2 you can get around that by drawing on the friggin' minimap. It's not like you're getting THAT off your screen  :D When human anatomy started appearing on the minimap I decided to not bother getting back into this game  :)

I'd say the only real way to enjoy any multi-player team game is to form or get on a team, but that takes some dedication.
