Figth the Dragon is not really advertised as game. It is avertised as game engine with editor where you can create your own levels, campaigns etc.
Since there is no bigger story to it the game play itself very good. i played some very good levels and some really bad. There is a rating system and you can enter different tags after you've played a level so other players see what the level is about.
The editor is really well made and recently foght the dragon got a bigger update where all the playable classes got new skills you can unlock and select (i think four new skills for each class, making it 16 new skills in total).
FtD was meant for quick playing sessions and shouldn't be confused with Diablo 3 or similiar games.
The levels are meant to be finished in 10-20 minutes, sometimes longer, sometimes shorter.

You mention Diablo 3 so I'll suggest Divinity Original Sin, last year's surprise best RPG. The writing is uneven, none of the game's characters are particularly memorable... but it's so much fun. The writing is witty and usually clever even when it's delivered clumsily, the combat is loads of fun and rewards doing absolutely crazy stuff like CARVING A PUMPKIN AND WEARING IT for a helmet or teleporting treasure chests in front of you, or teleporting burning objects next to conveniently placed oil barrels... it's the only computer RPG that I've felt works in multiplayer, and the fact that you solve quest disagreements by playing Rock, Paper, Scissors with your partner only makes it hilarious to do so.

My list of co-op games has already been on this list more or less. I'll just go ahead and Echo them anyways.

Borderlands. I played borderlands 2, it's a fun game to co-op, but when we finished I was very much done with it. Has its share of flaws and I tried playing it solo, just couldn't really enjoy it alone.

Monaco. That game was super fun. Very exciting with everybody running around like crazy. Would recommend.

Castle crashes. But of mindless fun, but was still enjoyable. I used to love golden axe style games as a kid, so it was a fun throw back for me.

Diablo 3. This is actually one of my current co-op games. It's been steadily improved from the disaster of its first release. When it first came out I beat Diablo once and was very much done. Now it's like a different (vastly better) game in many ways.

Divinity original sin. This is another fun game. I love the combat and exploring.  it's enjoyable with a friend and we're a good bit through on our playthrough. I find it a tad dialogue heavy though, and the writing being sort of lackluster (with a few amusing bits in there), which can lead to me skipping through dialogue and asking my partner what's going on or just not caring.

Not strictly co-op games exactly. But I've been liking the tell-tale style of adventure game (until dawn, wolf among us, etc) to be FANTASTIC "co-op" games with non-gamers. It's mostly story, QTE, and choose what happens. I've found it great to play while non-gamer friend watches like a movie - maybe let them direct the choices.  It's kind of an intro to video games disguised as a show or movie and does that role pretty well ;)

Double post but I almost forgot because I haven't played it in awhile. But nation red is a fantastic coop game too. It's basically a dual-stick top down shooter. Simple but enjoyable. I've not found another dual-stick since that tops it. If you know of any. Please share!

Lovers in a dangerous spacetime was recently released. It's a local co-op only (boo) game but it is absolutely amazing. The premise is you're on a ship that has engines, a shield, guns in the 4 directions and a "panic button" super weapon.  The controls are in different parts of the ship and you and your friend both control little people in the ship and have to run around to man the controls. At its best moments it is somewhat reminiscent of the board game Space Alert. It's great the panic of being surrounded and trying to coordinate yelling at the other person to man X console in a blind panic while trying to ward off enemies in all directions.

I completely recommend with the only issue being that it's local co-op only. Amazing game however.  I haven't tried out single player yet which swaps out the second player with a pet you order around.

Broforce:  Extremely fast-paced platforming action with a whole lot of explosives and crazy stuff.  Not perfect, but pretty fun.

Spelunky:  It's freaking Spelunky. Far as I"m concerned, this one should be an insta-buy for most people.  If you're not familiar with it, it's best to just look at videos of it, of which there are ten gazillion.

Magicka: Absolutely hilarious.  This is one of those games where, in co-op, you can "accidentally" blast your friends with fire beams, which is a very much intended part of the appeal of the game.  Hilarity ensues.  It's a very good game overall.

Viscera Cleanup Detail:  I'm not even going to TRY to explain just WHY and HOW this is a good game.  I dont have the right vocabulary to do so.  It sounds bloody awful on paper.  But for reasons that I dont understand, it just WORKS, like many other games that sound awful on paper.  I dunno how it is in co-op, but I enjoy the singleplayer.   Obviously, this isnt exactly an action game.

"Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes" is a very cute and fun way to do coop.

Nobody*

And yes, I heard about it at abour 4pm yesterday, had bought it by by 4:07, and got to play it with two other friends who bought it when I got home.
I dragged my laser printer down so I could print out the manual as a little booklet.

Monaco is great. I've played it with two of my college buddies and it was wild. It gets hard fast, and it's amazing how much of a different experience it is in multiplayer as it is in singleplayer. It's not a stealth game so much as a "heist going wrong" game. Also has a delightfully twisting story that wouldn't be out of place in an heist film.

Magicka is wild and crazy and frankly most of the fun comes from blowing yourself and everyone around you to pieces by accident with the wrong spell combo. I don't actually like the game much.

Not a big Torchlight fan, it's Diablo 2 (minus).

Broforce is a giant action movie pastiche. Maybe that's your thing! You'll probably like Mercenary Kings better though, I prefer the controls and mission design in that one.

Space Station 13... I would have recommended it years ago for the uncontrolled madness it offers, but now it's not much fun. The game was never particularly newbie friendly, but now the community is a pain as well.

Total War: Shogun 2 is not particularly new (it came out back in the year 2011) but it is fun. The thrill of having your back against a wall, only to see your friend's cavalry come charging over a hill to your rescue needs to be played to be experienced.

Both me and my friend tried it independently and agreed that it's not really enjoyable in it's current state.

Reason?

I'm really pissed about this. I bought DD2 a month before it was released because I thought they would release it 2016 (they said something like this on the EA information) but it seems they meant that it will leave EA there, the game itself is now F2P and I wasted my money on it.
Plus, it is more or less EXACTLY like DD1. The game has nothing new or special that differs it from the first game. Yeah, the graphics are better, the "story" is new and the interface is a lot better to look at as in the first game but except this it's exactly the same game but with less content because there are only 4 of the 8 playable classes. The towers are more or less the same (however the huntress switched from a solely trap based hero to a mix of traps and tower, probably to encourage solo playing more).
They didn't need to make a new game for those changes but they did. This shouldn't be called DD2 because it's nothing new in here (okay, the tavern is MUCH bigger which is a good sign) instead DD free to play because thats what it basically is: a free to play version of Dungeon Defenders.
