Chris' (X4000) new avatar
« on: September 06, 2011, 06:53:55 pm »
I couldn't think of a better place for this, so I put it here.

What's with the new avatar Chris? For years, I think, Arcen's logo was your avatar.

Is that your son? He's cute. And is that you? Nice shades.

I mean... yes, it's been the company logo forever, but it's really not something that helps particularly.  I think people can tell admins when they see them, etc.  And I figured that having a face to the poster might help... with certain aspects of forum culture.  Which mostly haven't been a huge deal here anyway, but still.  I got the idea from Cliffski, anyway, as he does the same.

This was the best recent picture I had of myself within easy access, so that's what I used.  And yes, that's my son, who just turned 1 last week.  I almost never wear facehuggers (maybe 10 days out of the year, if that), but we were at the beach and so they were definitely warranted. Those are about the only few days of the year I wear contacts instead of regular glasses, too.

I'm amused this warranted a topic. ;)

Congratulations! Not sure how you are being this active in development, in the forums, and raising a baby/toddler all at the same time.  :)

Normally, I wouldn't bother, but two things made this a unique case.
1. The aforementioned years of time your avatar had been basically the same thing
2. The fact that not many people use an actual photo of themselves in their avatar

Not having a commute, or basically doing anything hobby-related other than my job during the week, is pretty much the only way this is possible.  On the weekends I don't work much at all, except maybe an hour or two in the evenings, if that.  Except this past weekend, which was more of a crunch (as next weekend will be, too).  All in all it balances out pretty well.

And yeah, makes sense on the topic reasoning, but it's still amusing.  Someone else commented briefly in another thread, too.

I actually thought you were on a sail boat. Is that just an umbrella in the background or something?

It's a tent canopy to keep the direct sun off the kid.  Of course, that didn't work because all he wanted to do was run around in the sun. ;)

I thought indie developers spent all their time sunning themselves on the decks of their yachts? Don't shatter my illusions!

Hahahah.  I know a lot of indie developers, and I'm pretty sure none has a yacht.  But Cliffski has a pretty cool car.  ;D
