Best and Worst April Fool's Joke you've seen today?
« on: April 01, 2013, 01:07:41 pm »
Best One:
http://smashboards.com/threads/project-m-demo-3-sneak-peek.335378/

For those who don't know, Project M is a modification of Super Smash Brothers Brawl, to make it more like it's predecessor Melee.  In other words, faster pace and much more "combo" oriented.

However, this video (a preview of the next version) is just INSANE. It's like turning the Super Smash Brothers franchise into Marvel vs. Capcom 3. I died laughing.

Worst One:
(A woman I know on Facebook)'s husband decided to pull a nasty April Fool's Day prank on her and turn his FB status to "single". However, considering that their relationship was in a really rocky place, and that she was already considering leaving, she took it as a grave insult, and a form of passive-aggressive behavior, where the "joke" was a form of a plausible deniability for the malicious intent of his actions.

Now she's talking about packing up her things (and her kid) and leaving her, and she's completely serious.  Bad move dude.

Seeing Luigi (fully cartoon-stylized) just go coocoo-for-cocoa-puffs on that ninja-looking-guy... oh man.

I swear to god, that last clip with Marth just looks like Cloud's Limit Break from FF7. SOOOO over the top, I just lose it every time.

This one is one of the better ones I've seen today, although it's fairly obvious. Make sure to read the Q&A at the end as well. May only be relevant to Starcraft II players - http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/9369235/Situation_Report_--_April_1_2013-4_1_2013

That Humble Bundle one was the best one yet, though.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

I've never played SC2, but:

Had Flash been able to build Warhounds, our favorite race (Terran) may have won the tournament. As usual, we made a spur-of-the-moment decision based on this match and immediately set about rebalancing the game.

Sooooooo much developer frustration poured into two sentences.  It really struck me.  It's funny, but I think they're trying to make a real point, too ;)

The great part is that people fell for it. The SCII forums have a history of whining, complaining and accusing Blizzard of doing the "spur of the moment" balancing whenever something they don't like happens, such as the snipe nerf and the Queen Range buff. It's doubtful that this is actually the case, but since they get accused of this so often it's pretty funny. ;)

Plus the fact that they've been accused of favoring every single race at some point, that's why throughout the thing they list all three as their favorite at some point or another. The whole thing is a huge jab at the overly-whiny community. :P

Also worthy of note is they actually did add the Warhound back in as a worker for all three races. You would not believe the butthurt that ensued on the forums just because of this. (All it did was reskin every race's workers to look like the warhound just for one day and yet people are claiming to have been betrayed as customers for being forced into this joke and getting all angry in general.)

Yea, it makes sense.  It just really struck me how:

Quote
As usual, we made a spur-of-the-moment decision

So clearly communicates:

Not only 'at somepoint or another', they did it in three consecutive paragraphs, and then got in another jab at the community while still being related to the warhound in bullet points right after that. ;D

when we played against them using our favorite race (Zerg), it somehow felt very wrong. Obviously, we couldn’t have that, so we decided that we must also give the Warhound to Zerg.

we realized that our favorite race (Protoss) was getting the short end of the stick because it was the only race without the Warhound. That’s when it came to us: Protoss should have it as well, since one of our main goals in StarCraft II was to create as much symmetry as possible amongst all three races.

  • The Warhound has been added for Terran because robots are cool and the art is amazing
  • The Warhound has been added for Zerg to remain competitive with Terran.
  • The Warhound has been added for Protoss to keep Protoss players from whining about them on the forums.
