Title: Arcen Merchandise
Post by: Dominus Arbitrationis on September 10, 2016, 04:24:27 pm
So, I've been seeing some posts about people wanting Arcen merchandise lately. My question for all of you is what kind of merchandise do you want? T-Shirts, hoodies, other clothing articles, mouse pads, stickers, etc.? And how much are you willing to pay?

NB: THIS DOES NOT MEAN THERE WILL BE ARCEN MERCHANDISE. THIS IS SOLELY HYPOTHETICAL AT THIS STAGE. Oh, and Chris doesn't know (unless he happens to check his email as I'm sending this), so shhh.

He spends Saturday with his family, we're safe until tonight.  :P

I'd definitely wear a T-shirt with the Arcen logo, and I need a mousepad. Maybe a sticker/decal set with sprite art? I'd put some of those on my laptop and bag. $15-$20 for the shirt, $10-$15 for the pad, and the stickers would depend on what's there.

Oh and music CDs and arrangements! Would need to negotiate with Pablo, plus most of it is on Bandcamp.

T-shirts with iconic images/logos.  $15-$20
Stickers?  Maybe.  Size and number depending, $5-$10 probably.

Figures!  A nice Botnet model would be awesome.  Price?  Lots.

Oh, and a lorebook.

I would buy stickers. However, I cannot see you guys ship to Germany at a reasonable price for simple stickers. I also wouldn't pay more than 5$ for stickers, 10$ is way too much for something that simple like this.
I have a good mousepad and I cannot imagine to replace it unless it's damaged. It has a region filled with gel where you can rest your hand.
Like this but in circuar shape : https://images.otto.de/asset/mmo/formatz/speedlink-mauspad-vellu-gel-mauspad-grau-10434231.jpg

I'm very strict when it comes to my clothing. I don't buy anything with big logos or text on it, if it's small it's okay but if it goes over the whole chest or back I would never wear it.

Anything below 30$ (shipping not included) would be interesting to me. T-shirts in particular would be neat, especially if it has a logo in the back similar to the avatar Dominus uses. Nice and discreet.

Holy crap, yes. Hell there's a maker lab not far from where I live, I'm going to figure out how to their 3D printers it and make my own Botnet Golem.

Lorebook for sure.

Figures would be cool but probably more than I'd want to pay for something right now (not your fault).

I want a custom D&D/Pathfinder mini, but yeah. Minis are expensive.  A decent one from Hero Forge is like $80 (el cheapo low detail, low durability plastic is still ~$30-40).

Yeah, they're expensive.  But I'm one of those people that will import plushies and figures already, so the idea of tossing out $100 for a decent figure from a game I've spent thousands of hours playing doesn't make me hesitate at all.

The only reason I'd complain is if there were 4 or 5 figures at $100 each...

For the T-shirt, where would you want the logo positioned? And what sprites would you want stickers for?

I can look into models, but all the sprites are 2D, so it might not be possible from that standpoint alone. Not to mention the order fulfillment and all that jazz.

A big problem is, like you said, shipping. In a perfect world, we'd give you stickers all day every day for free. But, as is, it looks like without shipping stickers average around $5. God only knows how much international shipping is.

For the mousepad, I think that is just one of those things where you found a perfect fit, and even if we did sell stuff, we simply can't compete with all the new ergonomic designs plus the standard designs plus any new things that come.

For the clothes, I think you might be in the minority there. Of course, we don't want to alienate that minority, so if we do end up selling stuff in the future, we'll definitely keep in mind that people want small designs too, not just big things.

In the back? What about the front?

Lorebook for sure.
A physical lorebook is probably out of the question, simply because it would be expensive as hell to make due to printing and all that, whereas a digital lorebook could be sold for a much better profit margin (And a much better deal for you). Of course, just because I'm saying this doesn't make it true. A physical lorebook could pop into existence at some point in the future. But, at the current moment, I do not believe there will be a physical lorebook.

For the front it would probably be a miniature version of the back logo in an upper left placement. Of course, that's just because if it was made that way I would be allowed to wear it at the office, as opposed to a big front design which would be out of the question.

If the lorebook happens I'd like to make it printable. They'll have to provide for the binding and proper paper themselves though.

Aren't they redoing all the sprites for AI War 2?

Ah, I didn't want to speak for you, so I went with the safe wording. :) So basically, Arcen sells you a PDF and you print it out and bind it, or do you mean something else?

Aren't they redoing all the sprites for AI War 2?
I'm pretty sure. I'm not involved with AI War 2 though, so don't quote me.

That's exactly what I mean. I guess we/you could make a few as convention swag?

I'll quote myself then!  8)

A pdf would work, although theres also actual ebook formats. Not sure how easy it would be to make your own book from either.

Yes, but Chris has stated wanting to use 3D meshes rather than 2D sprites for rendering efficiency.  Hence "All the sprites are 2D currently." Meaning that AIW2 (might, will) be 3D.

PDFs are easy, most printing companies offer print & bind services from PDF. eBook would be a bit harder.

Right! But the Botnet Golem could look wildly different in AIW2!

If merchandise was made available during the kickstarter, would anyone buy the merch instead of invest in the KS, or invest less in the KS so they could get a cool botnet figure or t-shirt or [insert physical item you badly want here]?

Once again, this does not mean that any merchandise will be made available. This can be, at most, considered an unofficial survey. I am acting outside my scope as an Arcen representative and nothing I say here is binding or should reflect on Arcen. [More legalese here]

Have you considered that certain KS tiers could give a certain amount of Arcen store credit?  ???

I like that idea. I'm not sure how hard that would be to implement though, since we would be using third party software and not running our own e-commerce site (Unless Chris changes his mind).

I'm not entirely sure that "credit on our store" is kosher by KS terms.

It would appear that you are correct there. However, I would want to check with Kickstarter before hand just to be on the safe side, and to make sure that it isn't allowed.

Even if it was, something about store credit on a kickstarter suggests bad publicity. I'm not sure why though.
