Any albums/songs like this one (classical/techno)?
« on: January 21, 2011, 09:38:10 pm »
Does anyone know of any artists, albums, or even single songs that are similar to this song?  It doesn't look like there are a lot of "techno/classical" combinations in music circulation from a quick Google, and I'm not familiar with anything else that sounds like it.  I am very fond of this... genre of music.

Specifically, I'm looking for that serene and tranquil tone, with light instrumentals as heard in the video.  I suppose a progression or sort of "story" would be nice (instead of being completely ambient)--again, like the video.  But I'm absolutely fine with hearing anything that's as relaxing as this!

Thanks!

I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

FYI, your link is all sorts of messed up. Direct link below. I'd recommend plugging it (or something similar, perhaps the composer or album it's on if there is one) into pandora and seeing if anything similar pops up.

Check out the soundtrack to PixelJunk Monsters, it's pretty similar.  I think the group is Otagraph, or something like that, which did that soundtrack.  I don't know about their other stuff, but the PJM soundtrack is awesome.

Try the Revenge of the Titans soundtrack (Game that came in the Humble Indie Bundle 2).

This isn't techno nor classical. Hence your search turning up nada. I think these tracks here sound similar, but then again to me the tack you linked has too little beat.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAwRL2b_E2Q <-- more like what you linked, then again, only "faintly" ;)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxDjIO0HyHA <-- more trance actually its already psy trance (faster)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-JpWX5Yips <-- more beatier trance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAI7Hp4eGso <-- Famous Ambient Trance track but very SYNTH and not classic (Also, even if its not your style, thats the kind of Music a space game needs for ambiance imo.

Its called Ambient Trance or Aural Trance but what you posted is generally just called "Ambient Music"

This is the kind of music I'd have hoped AI War to have to be honest. Of course "less bright" and more synth / drum heavy but aside that - its nice relaxing ambient music...

If you don't like the first youtube link i linked to you can skip this post though. Because after the first things become a lot more trance and less "classic".

The reason i don't say "this is a 100% definite answer" is that the track you posted is incredible bland ;) Besides rudimentary beat its got nothing trance doesn't have (and i need more bass or i fall asleep) ehm yeah, hope this helps.

Disclaimer: as a hardcore trance fan (not Techno!) i am definitely seeing trance where there is none. So yeah ;P your mileage may vary and my post, if not helpful, at least gives you 4 nice tracks to listen to ;)

Yeah, I should have mentioned the same thing -- definitely not classical or techno.  Ambient trance or electronica for sure.

I tend to load up Blue Mars (http://bluemars.org/) when I play AI War. Sci-Fi Ambiance kind of thing, but much more on the ambiance side than the trance side.

Tis very true but Blue Mars really is more "ambiance" than music. In fact, its nearly 100% ambiance. Stuff like that is too slow (no distinct beat loop anymore) for my tastes.

Is good for relaxing and meditating though. But for a space game i guess anything up to progressive trance does it for me.

Compared to that AI Wars soundtrack is way way faster - more like central theme or Soundtrack music than ambiance.

I guess what i am saying is, AI Wars Soundtrack is too "central" it takes the entire sound stage and thus your brain starts recognizing melody and themes, which is unlike ambiance trance where you just sort of float in and around with your mind and never truly "listen" to the melody. This is also why i think AI Wars soundtrack is great, but not good "Ambient" music that can be used for general non-stop listening purposes. Its too distinct too noticeable (which isn't bad, am juts saying because this topic made me think about it ,p)

Speaking of "Ambiance"

True ambient trance is music where you can juts "blank out" all thoughts and float on the melody (yeah, without drugs preferably ,p) is a great way to relax imo. (which is why i am a big fan of all things Trance) when i have a creative block - 2 hours of this kind of music and i have new ideas ;)

Check out AlienHand:

(check under EVE project particularly)

perhaps a bit "darker", but nice ambient music imo. :)

Thanks for the all the suggestions and explanations, everyone!  I'm quite fond of the John Stanford tracks--his space ambiance works seems to be great.  Funny how the subject landed in the space-sim genre.  :p

Although I express most interest with how the guitar and light-keyed piano interacts with the main background of the song.  Is there really nothing that comes close to it?  I don't have access to Pandora (I'm Canadian), or know of any similar song searching engines.
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.
