Hmm, does it come with a demo? I can't see from my tablet ATM.

Nope, no demo unfortunately. It's kind of like a non-open world STALKER, if that means anything to you. I'd say it's worth it for 5 bucks, but it depends how much you like some shooting, some stealth, some creepy, and a whole lot of Russian.

Well, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. certainly gets my attention, but I'd want to play it out before I thought of buying. I'll do some research on it later then.

If you do grab it, or for anyone else that did, bear in mind that the difficulty is a little different from other games. The higher difficulties make you die faster, but they also make the enemies die faster. Everything becomes more deadly across the board. The usual recommendation is to play on a higher difficulty, even if you want an easier experience. The game's economy uses bullets as currency as well, so with more bullet damage you end up with more money as well.

By the way, Nation Red while its not a daily deal is 75% off as its normal discount for the summer sale. If you like the dual-stick shooter genre (which I personally do) its an amazing deal, and is probably my favorite of that style of game. And it does still get post-release patch support 3 years after release. Granted not Arcen-level support, but still better than most. It has a demo too.

I didn't like Metro. Not sure why, but the combat was incredibly clunky, the story unengaging and it felt more like a horror game than a "sci-fi horror" game.

EDIT: Yeah, I was SO wrong about that...See page 16 :P

So from today...

SpaceChem, although warning, it is really difficult.
Limbo, which I happened to do a review of recently: http://kingisaaclinksr.wordpress.com/2012/07/04/my-review-limbo/
And Train Simulator 2012 IF your into trains like I am. It is a very niche game but with high quality. But I enjoy it from time to time, since I can't afford the real model trains these days :).

Do not get Stronghold 3. Just don't. badly designed and executed and was a great disappointment to me.

Also, is it just me or have we had way too many FPS shooters on the front page this sale?

I don't really have any train-mania at all and I picked up railworks in one of the earlier sales. It can be a nice relaxing change of pace when you don't want to shoot things or tax your brain at all. I'd like to get Wargame EE but not quite enough to drop 20 bucks on it. Waiting on the holiday sale there. And Limbo is good, but it's pretty short, although for 2.50 you could do worse. Avoid the flash sale on Duke Nukem Forever. It's not so bad it's good, it's so bad it's bad. I got it on Amazon for a dollar last year, and I want my dollar back! Go get the original Duke games on GOG if you want something good.

Yeah...eventually it'll come crashing down. This many FPSes can't support themselves forever.

I disagree. It's a rescued title with quite a few flaws, but I have had more fun with that than most of the shooters that I own. It's supposed to be funny, entertaining, over-the-top, and crass. If you are not willing to dumb down your evening into some silly fun, you won't enjoy it. I kind of think that the press went overboard, expecting call of duty or some crap.

I don't know, some of the reviews I read into on Duke Nukem from people I consider...well "fair" said it was a mess of different ideas all strung together with poor execution. Like the devs were just copying FPS mechanics from every popular FPS game through the past decade.

I will say, I've never heard anyone say it was a "rescued" title. Many wish it was an shot-dead title.

DNF is absolutely shit. I'm sorry, but it is. I played through it and didn't enjoy much of it. Some of the humor was nice and sometimes even great, but for the most part it felt like they'd put CoD and Halo in a blender and slapped a Nukem-sticker on it. Definitely not worth it. Pretty, but that's it.

If you're looking for your "old school shooter"-fix, get Serious Sam 3. Now that's great!

Haven't played it yet, but I can also recommend Hard Reset or Painkiller (Black ONLY, the other so-called Painkiller games don't exist, they are a figment of your nightmares) for some great old school shoot everything type games. Hard Reset suffers from some bullet sponge enemies, but if you overcome your pride at being a super gamer and just set it on easy, it's a lot less annoying.

And DNF is still just bad in my opinion. It's very schizophrenic in its gameplay mechanics. You can see all the patched together games that they stole ideas from over the decade + development period. And a lot of games get unfairly accused of misogyny because they have scantily clad women, when that's not so much misogyny as it is just vague creepiness. DNF really does have misogyny. Two female characters that exist only to be sexy, get brutalized by aliens, and then die with Duke making a terribly unfunny quip at them. That whole section of the game is just... wow. Terrible terrible stuff.

From today's sale:

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat easily. I loved this game and wrote my review here. It is creepy, scary and a good storyline. It's also the least buggy of the franchise and well crafted. http://kingisaaclinksr.wordpress.com/2012/03/22/my-review-of-s-t-a-l-k-e-r-call-of-pripyat/
Super Meat Boy, very difficult, but controls are very tight if your into platforming.

I can't recommend Sins of a Solar Empire yet, I haven't played it enough, but from what I hear it's pretty fun and looks pretty.

Pretty good sales today, less FPS in your face.
