(Please) me me me!

A new MOBA game to try sounds so exciting! I have changed my mind and want to jump in with the vets. The baptism of fire shall cause me to improve much faster then if I tried playing with scrubs at start. I'll start reading up on it now so I have a clue what I am doing.

steam name is: chemical art
if there is any left? danando
Out of keys as of TyberZann =/ Sorry. It's possible Moonshine or TyberZann have extras though, I'm not sure if they got extra keys from registering the game.

Add me on Steam (Volatar) if you haven't already. I am up for this game occasionally. I suck though.

Did my first DotA2 game with bots.

It's funny that I think my teammates were berating me, but they only bothered using acronyms, and I never said a word, so the lack of communication just lead me to being ignored which I liked.
You mean MOBA bots have advanced far enough towards human-player-emulation that they've got berating down?  Wow!

;)

lmao, I wouldn't be surprised if that happened in a later version just to prepare you for playing online.

I've only ever watched a bit of LoL and DotA 2. I have DotA 2 and I have no idea how to do anything in it whatsoever... and I almost don't dare try to learn. Kind of a wasted key... Sorry valve! =(

If you want to learn in the comfort of a solo environment, pick Play tab > Create a lobby > Edit settings. Stick a random password and check off "Fill empty slots with bots", make sure they're set to "passive", and create/start one.

Oh.
I made like, a solo game with only bots, set the bots on easy, and just sorta died a whole bunch because someone had a stun I didn't know about that also involves trading places with me. At a guess, passive bots just do nothing and give me a chance to swap around heroes and actually play with the skills they each have and stuff?

Part of the problem is really just that I have no idea where to start. I tried to have the game make decisions for me with autobuy, but that didn't work out so well. The game just didn't buy anything, I had upwards of 2000 gold, and I couldn't click to spend any of it without actually exiting the game and turning off that option. But then like, the hero I had also only had like... I think one ability? And that ability was just to do area damage to things near me. I don't know who's good and who's terrible, or who works for beginners or not. I don't even remember the name of the hero I was playing.

Passive means they will never cast spells, and i think maybe play aggressively? Not entirely sure. Definitely wont cast spells though.

The autobuy, if I'm not mistaken, only goes for things in your quickbuy section. its kinda complicated, and the shop isnt exactly amazing. I honestly recommend you leave it on grid view.

If youre awake now, I am Lancefighter on steam, maybeI could answer some questions

I'm awake but I'm going to sleep soon. Maybe I'll get in contact with someone here about it, but again, I do have a school semester coming and it's especially important that I do well in this semester. Any understanding I come to will likely be a casual understanding of the game.
...Now see, I do wish the autobuy option were more clearly labeled. I thought it would do something like what I read about one of these games. A feature that's like, it'll automatically just spend stuff on 'standard' builds for beginners until they get a grasp of the game. It could do with a proper description, that or I didn't see it. Ah, well. I sure made my bot teammates mad then I guess.

Which day I will be able to do any talking about Dota is entirely dependent on my level of computer access. See, I have a level 1 computer and a level 20 computer. The level 1 computer does not run most programs without crashing. As in, google chrome crashes rarely, and even A Valley Without Wind throws out error messages that don't make sense. AI War even started crashing very frequently, which really upsets me when I get into a game... Nothing really works, put simply. The level 20 computer is owned by someone else and will soon be owned by myself. However, if the person who owns it is home, I'm not getting access to it. And in that case, as you can imagine, playing games will not be an option. I will indeed cross my fingers as hard as I can, though. That's about all I can do.

Mm well, dota at the moment isnt exactly new player friendly.. not at all. The interface isnt designed for.. well, honestly, anyone who doesnt already know what theyre doing. I believe the shop unintuitiveness is a fairly common problem. It would probably help if they didn't completely redo item icons once a month.

Generally the recommend items arent bad... I would at least spend some time looking up the alt-tab guides, if you were planning on actually playing... And be warned, playing dota, at least for a while, is almost a full time job in memorizing what each and every hero does, and the multitude of items.. and the tons of terrible mechanics.

The above combined with the horror stories one hears about the community in the genre is why I doubt I'll ever play one. It's impressive the number of people that do given those sticking points.

I would have requested one but I'd be so bad that I would hurt my whole team and everyone would get mad at me. :(

Although, now knowing that you can play with bots only I can happily pursue randomly hitting buttons and hoping good things happen without any rage once it comes out.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

As much as I really want to recommend people play dota2, I am finding it incredibly difficult to actually say good things about the game. I am honestly not sure why I kept playing dota2 this long..

This is pretty much why I am hesitant. Some things I'm intent on learning or shoring up on in real life include memorization of scripts, music, and learning to program. DotA seems to be about twice as intimidating as all of those things combined, and piling that on the list of stuff I want to do while it has no real benefit bugs me. At the same time, the game is complex and content-packed enough that it's almost a shame I have a beta key that I just don't use. Then I think about community horror stories and that's enough to push me away again. I'd be playing to have fun if I were playing.
Maybe I should just stick with AI War. As far as I know grabbing people from here to play with won't cause any havoc until I enrage a sentry eye with 2000 ships or something.. which I'll probably have sense enough to not do.

I still can't get into this, even after having the beta for months now. Although I did recently get Awesomenauts which is an obviously DOTA-inspired game, but a lot more casual friendly. Although it still feels like it's got some decent depth if one were willing to invest in it. The biggest plus for me, aside from the fun cartoony graphics and the simple 3 skills per character and all that is the fact that it has good bots and you can easily play matches purely against them if you fear human contact. Although random matches with other players aren't too bad in my experience. I've had no 12 year olds shout at me yet, at least. It helps that people who drop out are instantly replaced with a bot, and that the games are usually only about 15-20 minutes long.

Anyway, maybe one day I will advance through the ranks of DOTA-likes to the point where I can stand dota/lol/hon or something that follows the more original formula. Maybe Super Monday Night Combat next. That's another obvious DOTA offshoot, but still appears to be moderately casual friendly. Maybe, maybe not. I think if I ever really was the target of a serious attempt at a rage-induced berating from some kid half my age in a video game I might have to turn off the PC and go question my life choices.
