Nexus 2: The Gods Awaken - Kickstarter

I want this NOW. Though I should probably like, actually play through the first game before I demand that.  :P Yet another game that I have put on the back burner because of lack of time.

I've never played nexus, but after reading the kickstarter page I'm a little confused as to what type of game it is. It's tactical space combat, so like an RTS? Do you pick your fleets in a separate screen before battle, are they assigned, or a different mechanic entirely?

It sounds interesting, but the kickstarter page is definitely geared to people familiar with the first, (either that or I'm missing something obvious, which is a possibility). But based on what I read, it seems kind of like the "Close Combat" series in space.

That is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. I loved Close Combat: A bridge too far, and the world lacking in similar games. Is that a fair assessment of it though?

Yeah, you get a fleet "assigned to you", though it's based on the story and you get ships as they filter into the area, along with carryover from what you kept alive in the last mission.

Oh man, the first game was SO GOOD. Why is this so far away from it's goal? Damn I wish I had money...

@ Zespri that funding attempt failed...

I have hopes this will take off but... 650k is a lot of money.... and as usual, their timing is terrible.

1) They should have linked this with a sale of Nexus: Jupiter Incident on Steam and GMG/GOG and everywhere else
2) Their kickstarter is 2 days shorter than it could be...

If it proceeds as it does now it will not reach its goal... meaning, big "media" is not picking this up. So it will fail, again.

Actually, it was on sale on Steam and GOG about a week before the Kickstarter.

Yeah, hence bad timing ;P I would have made this a PR burst and mention the kickstarter in the sale directly, even so far as to make a "Did ye like this game, here you can kickstart the sequel" thing. Like a thing that pops up in the main menu in an non annoying way.

Games like this need more PR, and they often fail because the people behind it do not go the full 100 yards. Example is that I would not have set the game to 650k even if you needed that much for the "full" experience, it completely robbed them of a progression curve (not everyone can do 1m in 24hrs.. and old school isometric rpgs have a lot more fans (me included) than Nexus.. )...

Also.. last update was sep. 29 It's october 4th now, most games had 4 or 6 updates in that time. They just.. don't do enough for this to succeed.

Example: Project Eternity (I backed that with 35$ ,p) had 15 updates in 19 days... they are constantly talking about what they are doing. With this Nexus 2 sequel I have literally no idea what the want to do.
