I'd like one if you wouldn't mind, Volatar. Steam name is AklyonX, though it'll appear without the X since that was just because aklyon was taken.

I think the alien attack to interfere with the XCOM release is currently shooting up the modules in the search room.
I sense someone is excited about the imminent XCOM release? :P

Yea, though I don't see myself shelling out $50 for it; if I had the time to enjoy it maybe, but not for a while yet.

Try Green Man Gaming. I gave around $24 for my copy. ;)

Yes, they get there faster, but never seem to properly expect the spanish inquisition, so there are further delays.

Heh, the real reason for that has to do with the fact that the brick and mortar retail stores still exhibit significant control over the media market, and in the US, the retailers want releases on Tuesday, because that's normally the lowest volume day of the week. So they want to bring folks in with the new releases. But, in Europe, retailers want releases on Thursdays (I'm not sure of their reasoning for that, I think it's to allow them to stock shelves just before the weekend without having to do even MORE work on Fridays, but I'm not sure). So, the big retailers force the publishers into not releasing the big AAA games on any other days. Obviously, this was less of an issue before digital distribution, and I suspect as digital distribution becomes more and more common, the publishers will begin to realize that they don't need the giant retailers anymore, and they'll stop this nonsense.

And then hopefully developers will realize they don't need giant publishers.

Yea, I think some scales of project will still need substantial external funding, and physical retail will probably remain important for some time, but I think the general roles of the publisher and the retailer are in the process of significant downsizing, and I think that's a good thing.

I don't have an automatic assumption that the publishers and retailers are evil and/or idiotic (though some certainly make themselves look that way, which tends to establish the stereotype) but even if they were compentent and doing their level best to do the right thing I don't think they efficiently contribute value to the end experience, so it's better to focus on the two parties that matter more to that: the developers, and the players.

They do actually, if they want to sell to consoles and get the most amount of eyes on their games. People still go to retail to buy videogames for a variety of reasons. One practical reason is that their Internet sucks and downloading a game takes a century. one day though...hopefully they drop retailers
