Sorry. There is no bright side to DRM. No DRM will ever stop pirates. All it does it hurt legitimate, paying customers.  >:(

How about this, drm is like a lock with wooden bolts, making newbies don't want to try but experts can pick it easily, they're on a good track, and they will refine it, if it really was happening every day as you say, people will actually be as mad as you say but no, so yah.

What are you smoking, and can I have some of it please?  Because nothing of what you are saying makes any sense whatsoever.

Thanks.

Anyway, DRM has forced me, FORCED ME to get a cracked version of AC2.  I would have gladly paid for AC2, but then Ubisoft in all it's wisdom decided to force a single player game into a server-based game...........................................

wow.

I'm not going to pay for something that was not designed to be a server game, has no reason to be a server game and is made by a company that is not used to server based games.  All of this, ALL OF THIS = FAIL!

While I am not usually a pirate at heart, this is one of the few games I have to pirate in order to enjoy my experience with AC2.  If you've actually played the "legal" version of AC2, you would not be defending DRM.  Especially this kind of DRM.  This is lunacy on a high-scale.  I am glad to see that many Indy-Developers like Arcen Games have figured out their customers will not enjoy this kind of DRM or any kind for that matter.  Heck, I'd donate to them for all the work they have done on Tidalis and Ai War.  They truly deserve it.  But Ubisoft?  They make a substandard game that may be playable for around 40 hours before it gets old.  I'm guessing that what Arcen has done could be played over 200 hours.  That is how great they have made their games.

That is why DRM sucks.  If you can get your customers to actually want to donate to them, you have won.

I make perfect sense

Their idea is great, perhaps execution wasn't that great but better than nothing, as for your experience, you should try it these days, criticizing a game on the first game well, is pretty strict

Please read your own post to yourself, out loud. You make absolutely zero sense whatsoever. Please spend some time writing your posts so that they actually make sense.
Because nothing of what you are saying makes any sense whatsoever.

No, you really don't. I'm sure if we did a search we could find plenty of people saying your posts make no sense, shi crap-posting, etc., alas I am lazy and don't feel like searching. Contributing to a community is more that barfing words into a post just so you can get your post count higher.

Also, their idea is terrible, they are making their games less accessible to players AND increasing the cost at the same time, seems counter intuitive to me.

You have to make money, so you have to raise the price, this has nothing to do with drm, which you say the drm accessibility is reduced, that is on purpose to reduce pirates.

Btw, AC2 CREATED more pirates because no one wanted to deal with the DRM than it reduced.  Like myself.  Good job, you, Ubisoft, epically failed.

I make perfect sense

Their idea is crap.  Do not penalize customers for paying for their game.  And yes, I'm going to critize the game.  They did not need to make it a server-based-game.  It was unnecessary and unneeded.  Have you played AC2?  Also, I am not going to accept that every time my internet connection bugs up for whatever reason that it will stop my game and make me restart the level.  At least WoW saves my position when I'm playing it.

Again, DRM is never good, will never be good and that game developers should be more concerned with the actual game play than whether or not their game is going to get stolen.  THAT makes your $$.  Not DRM.

You have to make money, so you have to raise the price, this has nothing to do with drm, which you say the drm accessibility is reduced, that is on purpose to reduce pirates.

It's only to stop 2nd Hand sales, it has nothing to do with Anti-Piracy. If they wanted to do anti-piracy there is a superbly simple system for that, make your game a MMOG , release patches in a monthly cycle, build upon your game with expensions and free content. Service to customers - no disdain towards pirates, because pirates are always also customers (sometimes) if you piss off pirates enough that they won't buy nor pirate a game, then what you managed to do is reduce the amount of people that play your game. And less people playing it, means less people talking about it. ;)

This DRM has only 2 reasons. 1 to promote their uPlay service which before this DRM was useless, now you can get freebies that you have to unlock for playing. Accounts are not transferable, so selling your game = no longer possible. And buying a used game = more expensive than pirating it with the same "content" access level.

2nd Reason is to more accurately measure who plays what, where and for how long.

Lastly,

which you say the drm accessibility is reduced
that part makes no sense whatsoever ;)

Pirates get ALL THE CONTENT save for the uPlay stuff. Customers only get that content + uPlay stuff for as long as the servers are up (Which if EA is any indication, is 3-5 years.) and if they remember their password.

So the only ones bothered by this DRM are - 1 first sale customers, resellers and used game buyers

Pirates don't care about the DRM, when they can pirate it then its cracked (or more or less cracked, see Silent Hunter 5) which was enough to showcase what a broken mess that was...

Anyhow, this E3 i also caught attention of Bullet Storm, which looks like a fantastic fresh (PC) shooter.
