Ahh yeah, off topic.

Well, now that we have this, we can abuse it entirely =D What to do, what to do?

Heh, well I was wondering what peoples gaming backgrounds were around here, because everyone seems so well mannered compared to some of the other forums around the tubes.

I started gaming with the SNES and played all the usual games, Super Mario, Kirby all that stuff. Kept it real with the n64 and started playing GoldenEye and Perfect Dark as well as Starcraft 64. The former I kept steady with all the way today with all the popular console games such as the Halo games, but especially Halo 2, the latter led me to PC gaming and RTS, where I played SC, WC and Diablo II. Then to others like Rise of Nations and all that kind of stuff. Then a few years back I got introduced to Space Sims/4X games and have been pretty happy with them, always keeping them on my HDD in the offchance I'd pick em up.

On the MMO front, I've tried WoW twice, but couldn't do it, because I felt like I HAD to be playing in order to make it worth my while. I dabbled in ROSE Online Beta, and that was fun, picked up my buddy's Guild Wars account about 6 years ago, and couldn't keep playing. One MMO I really like is EVE. I haven't played it in a few months, but I paid for 8 months- the longest I've ever been subscribed to any MMO. Second runner up is Phantasy Star Universe. Only because I didn't realize that the 12.99 or what ever is automattically charged every month without my say so, so from January to last month I played maybe two hours in January, but have been paying for it since.

Anyways, that's enough text for now, I'm off to play the Nexus demo. Hopefully people will come a-flocking and post their own stuff here in our resident Off-topic category.

I started playing 1996 and since then only PC - can't stand consoles for some reason, consoles are too wonky. Am also hardcore RPG player and Simmer. Not a uber fan of fps and a huge fan (but suck at it) of rts games. Management games (ie, HOI3) i can't stand... unlike Space Empires 5 (ie 4x games) those i can stand.

If i'd have to give my 3 favorite games it would be

1) Baldurs Gate 2
2) The Witcher / Gothic 1-3
3) Divine Divinity: Ego Draconis (has a lot of flaws, but is awesome non-the-less, the only rpg i recent times i played through in 1 sitting. Yes, 1 sitting... 20 hours non-stop ,p Even found my complete char set... ;P

Otherwise high ranked: Silent Hunter series | Sots/Space Empires | x³ and Anno 1404 (more the building aspect of both) | Homeworld 2/Nexus

Nowadays i am free lance 3d-artist and work part-time, so if you got a commission work, i am here ;)

I've bought Witcher EE in the last few weeks, I can't really get into it, does it get good once you pass the first village? Also, I got Baldurs Gate 2 a while back, and that was cool. No GalCiv2 on there though eh? :'(

No Galciv 2 is far inferior to Sots/space empires IV/V. I don't like these simplified x4 games (and i like sins of a solar empire even less)

Sins is just always the same with no real innovations and galciv 2 has a nice but predictable AI, but as mentioned elsewhere completely sucky battle system (like how they calculate armor and such) which always made me uber angry. And worst - arbitrary Fire order.

Also galciv 2 is just.. toooo .. mhh how to put it, shallow , lots of nice ideas, none good executed (like planet atmospheres and quality for example) or the differences of races.

You know in Sots each race has a different way to travel the stars (as opposed to travel in a sector) and each race has its own terraforming level (which means a race opposed to you can terraform a planet to inhability for your own race) Which means you don't actually always have a choice, when you want a planet you HAVE to enslave the populace to make them convert the terraforming level so that your people can live there.

there are only literate people here because there is no hugely expensive advert for the game which means no idiot is subconciously drawn to it

Me!?  Who wants to know about me?

I'm an EX-Counter-Striker, part of the competitive niche of the game.  Played over a hundred scrims, more of a CAL-O level since I never really entered CAL/other leagues.  Apart from that, I spend thousands of hours pubbing/etc. hanging out with friends doing relatively stupid stuff.  I'm relatively immersed into the Source competitive community (or at least I was until CGS broke down).  From that, I occasionally play competitively in other games--but I know how to have my fun, too.  Unfortunately, I have not touched Source for at least a month.

From that, I spend several ten-thousands of hours playing leisurely; however, far more like a slave to the system than anything else.  I enjoy all types of games, generally FPS and RTS games are good for me.  AI allies as scapegoats are a must *COUGH*!

Basically my record for beating my friend in SupCom is a straight X-0, Command and Conquer (TW to RA3) XX-0.  I am hardcore when I do feel like it; rofl.
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

When I was about 4, and getting very interested in Computer Gaming, my Dad had two games he played a lot. Harpoon and Doom. my mother didn't want a 4 year old playing Doom, so I started on Harpoon instead. I've been a strategy gaming nut ever since ;D
