Not only is the steam store page for the game now live, but we also have our first actual trailer-style video!  Happy day. :)

Here's some fun/interesting facts about the trailer:

I...what? This is an arcen trailer...

How to say this...

It works, it really does. It got me curious and looked...professional. I am walking on eggshells, so I will just say this is the most intriguing trailer you have done with how little you revealed.

In other words it is an excellent trailer!

Together with the name and gameplay, I was expecting a more humorous trailer, but this also works.

sick trailer I wasn't expecting as theatrical but it works by the way Chris you still need to change the title of this to game to ,in case of emergency release genetically breed killer raptor, me and Kregoth decided it was objectively superior to your current title for one its more descriptive to what your game is and for enougher thing it sounds better.
ps at least to me that is 0_0

Wow, the music is awesome, as always!  Pablo just keeps getting better and better.

Overall, the trailer itself was pretty good.  A little rough, but still gets the point across.

I dunno what I was expecting. But not that. That was pretty sweet! Nicely done!

I'm in the average (for once).

1) I love the music. GG to both Vegas!
2) The very serious tone is surprising, knowing how few seriously the project began. But I love it.

(We went from a robot dating simulator joke to... that. :o )

Personal mention: I love the Arcenverse being tied together and I eager for more explanations, especially between RR and BD (Who's behind these robots? Why?), and between RR and AIW. (800 years? Civil war?)

Anyway, I'm very please with the more serious tone you're pouring in this. I already decided to buy it, but now I CAN'T WAIT!
Teaser's effective.

This is really the best trailer/teaser I have yet seen from you guys.
Kudos.

I wouldn't say it's the best. It really doesn't say a thing at all about the game or what it's about. I guess that's the point of a teaser. But it's definitely the most engaging and most "high production value".

You are right here. I should have been more exact: Definitely the best teaser by far - and one of the best trailers anyway ;).

Thanks everybody!  I'm back in the office today, so finally reading and replying.  A few notes in no particular order:

1. The tone was always meant to be deadly serious and a bit tragic with this one, actually.  I mean, there was a whole thread of jokes and so forth, but that was more created by the community than myself.  I think of raptors as being these majestic powerful creatures, and to really feel like one I need the atmosphere to be fitting enough for that.

2. I'm glad you liked the teaser so well!  It was indeed a bit of an experiment in a different direction.  Having 3D footage really really helps, I have to say.  This is one that I created myself, and I'm really glad that I've "still got it" to some extent. ;)  I've done about... maybe 50% of the Arcen trailers, mostly the older ones.  But also the TLF ones.

3. In terms of what a trailer should accomplish, that's always a tricky thing.  But I think that the big one is making people go "I want that" or "I must know more," much more than it is about communicating details.  I've always tried to be very descriptive in trailers and have them explain what a game is, but that's so complex and so hard to do in a trailer while also achieving the first bit.  Generally speaking, a trailer plays on a page with a link to a bulleted list of features at bare minimum, so I figure the heavy lifting on that can be done there.

4. That said, in TRUE trailers (aka not teasers), I'll probably go for a mix of impact and information, I guess.  We shall see.  I'd be curious to know about trailers and/or teasers that you guys have seen for any sort of game (AAA, indie, whatever) that really worked on you.  And why it worked, if you feel like explaining it (emotional impact, curiosity piqued, clearly laid out a case for unique awesomeness, whatever).

I wish you had a right to use this song somewhere:

That is awesome!  If someone knows how to get in touch with the artist, and the artist is not someone super famous for whom this would be a laughable proposal, then I'd suggest the following trade (of sorts): they give us the rights to use some portion of their song, which we'd play with static coming in and out at the start and end, and we'd put it emitting from some sort of virtual screen with their logo and website and so forth on there.

I'm imagining this being on the verge of the amount of the song that would be Fair Use anyhow, but with the benefit of giving them some free advertising in-game (for what that is worth, if anything).  And from a consumer standpoint it's not really advertising so much as a fun way of giving credit where it is due (to the song artist), and having a fun in-joke for people who already know.  It's not product placement like trying to sell you Pepsi or something.

If anyone knows how to reach them, I'd be totally cool with something like that.  :D

I'll tell you about Planetary Annihilation kickstarter's video. It really clicked on me, back in the day. I think it's because I explained the gameplay: macromanagement, spherical maps, multiple battlefronts, planet smashing. (However, and I don't know why, now I'm pissed off by that game.) Anyway, the trailer really worked on me because of its meaning and near-technical explanation. Though I might be a special case, and a less descriptive, more "feel" video might be better. (But for your RR video, I already knew the gameplay behind from your talking on this forum. And I was totally hooked.)

You're pissed with it because it didn't deliver on the hype. It was underwhelming, a chore to play and just not what anyone was really expecting.

Eh... I don't know.
I'll speak only for myself. When I look at it, I got all it promised: a strategy game, heir of TA and SupCom, with spherical maps, one layer higher than air (space), planet smashing... We even got the return of bot/tank (it was in TA but SupCom tied them into "land") and the SupCom's experimental units in the form of the titans. Objectively, we've got all we paid for. Still personally, I think that MY actual reason for that is that I'm a PvE player to the core. I don't play SupCom neither despite the fact it has a vivid community (FAForever) because I'm not interested in PvP. Same thing for StarCraft: I blazed through the HotS campaign, was disappointed, didn't touched it's PvP (despite I spent a bunch of time on WoL's PvP) and didn't bought LotV. And incidentally, AIW is my favorite RTS, by a huge margin.

Oh, god... Derailing... is... contagious...

Sadly, I dont know any direct way to reach them, and as far as I know they are pretty well known within the genre.

Ah yes, I remember the PA trailer, too.  Boy that had me excited, too.  Not enough to back, quite, because I was skeptical (cough).  But I was really excited if they could deliver.  I'll have to watch that one again.

Got it!  That probably answers that, then.

I suppose if anyone wants to try, they've got a website (http://www.kasabian.co.uk/) with a forum and a link to a twitter account.

But yeah, probably too small-time.

I don't know how to ask this properly in a tweet, without making it sound like I am begging for a free thing, or I am behaving on someone's behalf without their consent. So, I will pass.

All good -- thanks!  Since I had their twitter from there, I just reached out with the public message "We're making a raptor game; some of our fans are also your fans.  Want to do an easter egg?  Hit up arcengames at gmail if so.:)"  Innocuous enough, and makes it clear that this is meant to be a small fun thing and not some sort of major collaboration.

Twitter is oddly useful for things like that.
But yeah, sounds like a good message to send.
