Yep, they are unusually cruel for sure.

Yep, exactly my feelings on "the hawk has to eat."  Seeing people take masochistic joy in something is a whole other matter, for sure, though.  When I was a kid, my cat killed all the rabbits and squirrels around my parents' house.  Took a good 5+ years for the population to really recover after him.

The funniest story I have about that cat (he's been dead over 10 years now, was 14 years old when he died) was one time I came home from school and saw him sitting in the yard in a strange way.  He normally would come greet me, but when I called him he just wouldn't move.  When I approached him he just kept sitting there -- perfectly erect and upright, very regal and a little... smug?

Then I see that there's this little vole (kind of like a mouse) running in literal circles around him.  Took me a second to realize that he was sitting on the lovably vole's hole, haha.  So the vole just had no idea what to do to get home.  I'm sure he was dinner shortly after.
sigh it bothers that cats hunt birds and so on when they don't need to (yes I know instinct and so on which is why I blame the people who breed cats to be what they are) but I hate the idea of birds and so on dying for nothing not that I get upset about it though since most cats I see have the bell collar which I assume at least makes succeeding impossible.

ps I'm referring to house cats there not wild/stray cats

pps I have to admit that is rather amusing personally I would have pushed the cat out of the way but I'm really to kind when it comes to animals for my own good really

Cats are really heinous when it comes to playing with it's prey, Most the kills they make are purely for enjoyment (like messing with a mouse and his hole!) I get a rather funny giggle when people tell me cats are the greatest pets. So you like animals that murder for pure enjoyment? HAHA
yea I don't get that part at all what so ever makes no séance to me at all.

I really only care for indoor cats now.  I knew that vole had no hope, and actually they are quite a pest and eat the roots of bushes and kill them, so I didn't feel too bad.  I would have saved a rabbit (and in fact did a few times -- that and possums).  But he could eat voles all day as far as I'm concerned. ;)

It all humans fault as to why Most house cats are like that! We purposely bred them for years and kept Cats that hunted small animals extremely well. So instinctually these days most domesticated cats have an over bred desire to kill for sport! It's what we humans wanted them to be good at in the first place, now they are the best of the entire animal Kingdom when it comes to killing!

actually its the whole enjoyment part that doesn't make much séance to me that really isn't natural at all unless it was a by product of what you just mentioned. (which it probably is now that you mention it)

I think mostly what happens is that cats get the urge to go hunting, do so, then realize after [whatever] is dead that "yuck, I've got better stuff back home."

Of course, they still play with their prey which is pretty cruel.

It is exactly why! It all genetics, we bred cats to hunt. It's the same reason as to why Bloodhounds have the best nose of all dogs, or why Chickens don't fly. We did that, we bred them to be that way.

Speaking of genetics, this game is probably the best game I ever played to represent how it works. You can actively breed Roosters for fighting purposes all while breeding for specific genetic traits, both mental and physical! Like ones that are good at pouncing, or cast spells faster, or just to get cool colors or plumage.

Linkrealms https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wpvv8jPX-g&ab_channel=minecraftwb (involves Cocks fighting!)

EDIT: Derailing thread alert!

a game that lets me breed birds?! count me in!!! providing I don't have to breed them to murder each other but hey this looks pretty sick

ps this threads already been derailed twice once  by me nerding over dracos game and then with that meme that draco posted and then with Chris posting that video which rustled my jimmy's so blame Chris for this derailment into animal breeding to be honest in fact I'm half expecting misery to vacantly wander in here and then suddenly appear out side with no recollection of how she got there.

That what this game needs Chris, Selectively breeding Raptors to increase your ability to kill more enemies in the game. It fit perfectly into the Jurassic Park vibe, I'd pay for a Raptor Breeding Simulator with actual Genetics as a main mechanic for the purpose of making the most efficient killer ;)

Totally not serious btw.... or am I? EDIT: Or screw feathered Raptors, add some Cat-Raptors!

perhaps chris could a rogue legacy ish like system were after finding female raptors in heat and doing you know what after dying you could get a choice of different osspring with different stats and so on and then by choosing the one you like the most you could do you know what again and you'd have a good 50 percent chance that at least one factor of this osspring would stay on to the next generation.

I think Chris should rename this thread something genetics themed.
