Title: Netstorm style game play gets reboot in 3D and new IP

Hello all just wanted to let everyone know about our team which started as fans of the original 90's Netstorm Islands at war have banded together to form a development team and working with help from the original devs are creating a new world and IP heavily influenced by the original game-play style under but new world and artwork and units and IP.

The new reboot of NS style game-play of warring priests and floating sky islands is called "Disciples of the storm" and is set in a full 3D world instead of 2D that the original game was.

The team has been working over past few months on changes and getting the new rain faction art down in preparation for creation of the new units for use in a new test build, the team has put a number of screenshots of art and models on our steam greenlight page a few videos of the teams work inside the unity engine with a test build of the game showing some of the gameplay mechanics implemented from the older game..

We also are releasing a look of the new Ice Cannon attack unit we are working on the design...

Earlier we had uploaded a picture of the new rain creature air unit spawn pool which will spawn rain based air unit that will attack any enemy units in a radius from the spawn pool..

Looks really cool - I always wondered why there was no Netstorm 2 :)

That link you gave dropped me on russian page for some reason.. ;)

Also I can see the dreaded F2P text on steam - could you tell us what it will mean exactly?
(Basically F2P is usually "put coin in here" for me and thats something I stay away from with few exceptions)

F2P means that while there will be an initial purchase we are not going to charge over and over for people to access user accounts , there will be one time purchase of the game but access to the online servers will be free and will not have to buy a subscription for continued playing aka WOW or eldar scrolls online.

the only thing players can spend money on is on their own choice for getting special clothing items for their priests to give the priest a unique looks but these will not affect gameplay in anyway and are more geared towards letting players that want to get a special look for their priest the ability to do so.

We did not want a pay to win game so we are staying well away from that but down the road with allowing customization of priest looks will allow players to become more connected with their priest avatar and allow a little income from that..

We are currently working on getting a new set of island terrain surface textures in that will be replacing the current terrain surface textures in coming build which will improve the look of islands.

Game focuses on capturing islands to expand ones territory using your priest to construct temples on one's home islands and shrines on distance islands to lay claim to them and the use of bridges to link to the different islands with the ultimate goal of attacking the other players island using attack structures and capturing the enemies high priest and offering him up on the altar to ones chosen deity for victory.

Oh, so is it an island based rts game then? So it is sort of like planetary annihilation in terms of island travel or do you use portals to get to other islands?

Construction of a temple gives access not only to building workshops but also building wooden bridges of different shapes such as L T and Y shape segments that can be rotated and snap to each other allowing creation of bridge networks that your resource collectors walk back and forth on. Bridges end connections can also have small structures built off them allowing attack units to be constructed on floating platforms from them.

Out with the old and in with the new, the first new terrain surface texture has been implemented replacing the older terrain texture.. We have the basic terrain texture that is now seen in game then a set of blending detail textures that will break up the base texture with such things as moss and patches of rougher dirt that will be implemented to further provide the terrain with more depth and blending.. here are two ref pictures showing the old and new terrain surface texture.

Today the DOTS project is pleased to release the first look at the updated "Rain" faction Ice tower blocker concept design..

The new design moves away from the original ice tower design with giving a more foreboding look, while having a more fixed shape the ice tower still keeps a fluid nature to it..

After several weeks of back and forth with the art team and modeling team we at Storm Isle Productions are pleased to showcase the first look of the newly modeled and textured Rain faction "Ice Cannon" with the initial model done we will be implementing it into a coming build for further demonstrating of the new unit model in-game soon...

Following on last weeks roll out release of the new "Ice Cannon" model we are very pleased to this week release the first public glimpse of the newly modeled and textured rain faction "Ice Tower" blocker unit for the DOTS RTS. The new design takes a major step away from that of the original and gives a more streamline and fortified blocker look.

Following the initial backing Yesterday morning, from our one contact in the gaming industry, we then picked up new further backing from the folks at Tripwire Interactive, an older, established indie studio that has been following our team and progress for a while. They were impressed by the work we have done and stepped forward to show support for our new indie studio, Storm Isle Productions by kicking in backing to our kickstarter, helping push us over $9,000.

So, barnEbiss, whatever happened with this project?  I saw it missed its funding goal on KS ( :( ), but it looks like the game's website is still live...are the developers moving forward with it?

We are still active although we did not make the kickstarter goal we are continuing development just more slowly, We have put up a paypal donation campaign on our site to help generate a trickle of development funds coming in.  Through public donations so far we have raised some funds and gotten the first of the new wind units concepts done of the new wind archer redesign done up as we are working on other wind units.

Some screens of some of the stand in assets we are getting done to complete the wind faction for early access build for testers.

these will be used until we get the main unit and building models finalized and done up..


Also the paypal campaign has slowly been climbing and recently reached $861 donations.

The team has also been hard at work working on new content and also updating effects for the world map, to this end the team has been working on lighting adjustments and adding in new visual effects to bring world maps alive! the team has put out a new short video clip showing these new game effects and can be seen at the below link.

Thanks Mánagarmr, we are putting a lot of effort into trying to update and bring the world into a new direction while still doing honor to the older game even if we are in a new IP..

Big news on the DOTS RTS rebirth of Netstorm style gameplay Indiegogo campaign!

Storm Isle Productions DOTS RTS indiegogo campaign today got a big boost in backing with a pledge of 1k support from Alan Wilson from Tripwire interactive in a show of support for our project. Tripwire Interactive are the makers of the killing floor games and Rising Storm Red Orchestra.

The project is now at 17% funded mark!

We started active early access testing with folks that backed us at developer access level, so far had 5 games with the current testers, we are currently tracking down the connection issues on hosting games and server crash on rejoining the battle lobby. 

From the last set of play tests we got some good logs for tracking down whats causing what issues, coder is hoping to push out a new build for further testing by hopefully end of week.

We are very pleased to showcase the new rain spawn pool structure mesh today, the newly finished structure mesh spawns rain beasts that drift through the air to attack nearby enemy units or structure that enter or are constructed in range of the pool.
