Title: The last leg of the journey to 1.0
Post by: keith.lamothe on September 30, 2013, 05:44:41 pm
So, we've got an official release date of October 8th. That's a week from tomorrow.

Things feel really good, honestly, and I think we're basically ready for 1.0.  That said we're certainly not planning on just sitting on our hands until the 8th.  THAT said, we're not going to be spending 100% of our time cramming more changes into Bionic all the way up till the 8th either.

(you may need to re-read that last sentence, as your previous experience with Arcen is probably diametrically opposite to that ;) )

So what I'd like to know from y'all is anything you think is really important to get in for 1.0.

Here's what's already on our definitely-to-do list for 1.0 in terms of what you experience in the game:

1) Integrating the rest of the music.

2) Integrating the comic.

3) Steam integration of the achievements.

And that's it :)

There's also more achievements I'm planning to add, but those aren't 100% certain that we'll do them (so if more of those are really important to you please say so, but also please say if there are other things _more_ important to you than more achievements; let's avoid tunnel vision :) ).

There's also a ton of ongoing bug-extermination work from the mantis records, but don't assume any particular issue will be addressed by 1.0!  If there's one up there that's a real necessity in your view, please bring it to our attention here :)

And I'll be doing some more parts/stats balance discussion here in the forums and responding to what comes up there, but again don't assume that means any specific issue you may have in mind will be addressed by 1.0.  Let us know here if any of that is just bonkers.

Thanks again for all the feedback and testing and encouragement through this whole process, it's really been fun!

Best,
Keith

Except for the few outstanding balance discussions, I think it's in pretty good shape. At this point anything I'd want changed is a post 1.0 thing anyway.

Nice work you guys. :)

So what are you going to do the rest of the time? Take half a week off? ;))

As usual, Teal_Blue is preternaturally quick at noticing changes in our sidebar. :)  http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,13937.0.html

There's nothing REALLY important to get in before 1.0, I don't think.

This issue, the more I think about it might need addressing:

Shop sales I think would be nice. Could add a bit of extra fun.

Really it's just more tweaking and balancing, though. You might currently have a problem with the difficulty level as I read a few posts saying the game is way too easy -- haven't tried the latest build, though.

Seems like you've timed this game a bit better than others, given yourselves a lot of breathing room. The game fits together quite nicely for me, no glaring flaws. Looks like it might be a hit. Gets an 8 from me anyway -- maybe 9 if you can ever solve that impossible how to get good multiplayer in a rogue-like problem.

Hmmm.... only thing I can think of that I'd want to see is a difficulty higher than expert.

Other than that.... it seems most things are pretty much in place here.

Hopefully this one will sell well, I think it's quite deserving of that.

Seconded!!   :)

And yes, we hope it sells like crazy!!

Good luck, y'all!  I haven't had much time to play lately, but when I have, I've not found anything to complain about.  That makes me happy, and a little bit sad.  Almost like watching your kids grow up.   :'(

Ah, it is on Steam but can't pre-purchase it. Dayum.

I would *love* to see the robot zoo! (http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=12746) in 1.0!
Although I could understand if this is too much to ask for the short time span still available :-\...

Next up would be the new Misery difficulty (not sure whether there is a Mantis entry yet) and
Shop sales! (http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=12622) as I think they could add quite a bit of flavor.

All in all I am mostly looking for things that add to the game's (already existing) charm and make it less generic robot apocalypse
fare (which it is already only to some extend). The more flavor we can get in there before 1.0, the better in my opinion ;D...

Misery difficulty is coming in the very next version. :)

New features like the robot zoo or the shop sales are out for 1.0, it's time not to be stirring the pot in that way. :)

Just saw it myself. Thanks :D!
That was really - weird, by the way (being you added this in the patch notes that short after I write it) :o ;).

Awww, shame... presumably the slight randomization of shop prices could make it in, though?

For some reason I want to be sitting at the shop thinking "hmmm 5000 credits for a MKX Auxiliary Reactor of Non-uberness...no way Jose!" or for a MKX Auxiliary Reactor of Uberness... "Shut up and take my credits!"

Ooh, one quick suggestion if you intend on adding the robot zoo idea later, is to make it be special optional rooms in missions, instead of the "you have to do this every time" that Dredmor generally does.  You could make the door look different, too, and have every robot in the room activate upon door opening.  And then have a bunch of high-rarity loot boxes in there become accessible if the bots are defeated.

Making it optional specifically would keep it from ever being frustrating.

Overall though I really like that idea.

I'll leave that up to Keith, but I don't see why not.

My fav quote has been for awhile Micks h/h/h quote of getting kicked in the teeth by the bandits in Skyward Collapse,  :)  But your MKX Auxillary Reactor of Non and Definate Uberness!  is definitely looking like the new candidate and certainly the one for Bionic 'Uber' Dues.  :)

Ha! What I like about that SC quote is that it sums up the game succinctly. Whenever I place Singasteinn things usually go wrong... it is fun, though!
