So, am I right that you can't equip new gear during missions?

I cannot equip new gear I find during missions.  Can you only equip between missions, or am I missing something?

Yep, precisely.  Switching out stuff during missions would be all kinds of broken as you could grant yourself more ammo, or un-equip stealth stuff after you used all your stealth points, etc.  You choose your gear before going into a mission, like choosing your characters and gear prior to a battle in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and then you're off to the races for better or for worse until the mission is over.

Yea, we considered various degress of mid-mission equipment changing before, but ultimately it broke a key goal: keep the mission gameplay moving fairly quickly.

Either that, or really simplify the equipment model such that mid-mission changes would not be overly complex a decision space.  But really rich customization was also one of the key goals
