Expansion Chances?
« on: April 24, 2014, 11:15:37 pm »
I noticed the plans for an expansion disappeared off the Arcen front page in the midst of all the TLF activity.  Does that mean it probably won't be happening?

Also, will there ever be an official 1.006 release?  (This version is still in beta on Steam).

It would be a shame if there were no expansions for Bionic Dues, though I can understand that Arcen probably wants to focus on the games that actually keeps the lights on.

I've noticed this as well, and thought that maybe there was something wrong with my installation.

I would love to see BD get an expansion pack, and I hope it gets back on the company radar. Maybe after AI War gets its next expansion?

From what I've seen, BD gets a decent amount of respect from the roguelike community, but it's a small and cranky one that probably doesn't part with cash as often. They aren't BD's core audience, but a good open dialog with them could bring some honest criticism and some great ideas. Where would Arcen go to have such a dialog, I wonder? Reddit? Temple of the Roguelike? The Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup forums? Bay 12?

Update: Keith seems to have answered the question about more work on the game here   http://steamcommunity.com/app/238910/discussions/0/540739861248106611/

Still no word about 1.006 though.

That "more work" may or may not take the form of a paid expansion/dlc, but yes, I fully intend to do more work on it.

On 1.006, Chris is the one who can get the updates out there right now, and he's super-busy.

Alright thanks for the clarification.  Either way, I'm excited to see what the next steps are for bionic (even if they are small steps).

Me too :)  How big or how small is primarily dependent on how much time I manage to free up for it, and how much those steps seem to actually help (in terms of the game being more fun, rather than financial-success terms; it's kind of difficult to take a game that's already been out for a while with mediocre sales and turn that around... but maybe we can learn some important things for future games in the process).

How were AI War's sales when it first came out though? Wasn't it something that kind of snowballed into being a popular game? Bionic Dues seems to me to have that kind of opportunity, especially as roguelikes gain a larger market share.

AI War's steam launch was much stronger than Bionic's.  Also, its reviews were better, etc.
