I hate to just jump in like this for my first post here but being an RL vet/dwarf fortress perfectionist.  I noticed a serious lack of anyone mentioning "Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead", or "Unreal World RPG".  These are two awesome contenders in the RL arena.  Very much worth checking out if you haven't already!

official sites
Cataclysm dda - http://en.cataclysmdda.com/
UnReal World RPG - http://www.unrealworld.fi/

you can thank me profusely when you try them out, they are indeed that good! :)

Indeed, I could I forgot to mention Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead. It's a really good game too.

Teleglitch is also a good pick. :)

Teleglitch looks cool, but it also looks like a stress and twitch test fest!  :)

I'm considering picking that up now.  I haven't decided whether to thank you or blame you yet  ;)  (I already have more games than I can play, lol)
My other bonus ship is a TARDIS.

Teleglitch is fantastic!  The graphics are so simple, yet it still manages to be genuinely creepy.

I have been watching the youtube videos for Neo Scavenger, and for Unreal World... they are Survival RL's and they are really, really cool, not a twitch fest, but rather slow and sedate (haha, i really love that!) and i am loving both of them.

Really, really neat games, you should take a look.  Neo Scavenger is $9.99 on Desura and $10 on the Neo Scavenger Homepage

And Unreal World is free or donation ware.

Pardon me if i rush off, i have to set up camp and skin some fish for dinner and finish my lean to before it gets dark.   :)

in case some of you don't know anything about Cataclysm DDA and to entice you into trying it!

CDDA is a turn based apocalyptic survival game.  notice I did not say "Post apocalyptic".  imagine every end of civilization scenario you can think of, and you will more than likely see it in CDDA.  you have to eat, sleep, drink, find/build shelter.  you can fix up and drive any car or build your own mobile base or death machine.  upgrade your character with Skyrim like character progression, (train the skills you want by reading or performing actions associated)

you can also augment your character with mutations, or cybernetics.

its completely open world, procedural cities/landscape.  And it is completely free.

you may not care what I think but its an easy number two (after DF) in my top ten rougelikes.

Actually, my horrendous knifing skills are much more to blame  :-\

Now that I've seen the movies that show how to get into the game, I should do a bit better.  I'm good at avoiding damage and relatively accurate; I just kept running out of ammo.
My other bonus ship is a TARDIS.

Now of course, don't blame me if you develop a tick from all this running around and shooting and dodging and shrieking and oh my!!  Cursing! and crying, and bleeding... and ... was that an ammo pickup? Really? Really? A real-like ammo pickup, there, right past those columns, where-OH No!!! Zombies!! Dozens and dozens of them!!

:)

I am loving my slow paced Neo Scavenger and Unreal WOrld...  :)
I got Teleglitch too, its the demo from the ModDB site,  but i keep dying, haha, i'm not as co-ordinated or quick and i keep making the wrong turns!!!

But it sure looks cool!!  I could see this as a spectator sport where people watch matches with the best players running levels against the ai.  :)
