: .916 out - Please Watch For Strange Behavior
: x4000 September 19, 2013, 01:49:30 PM
The release notes here are short: http://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Bionic_Dues_Alpha_Release_Notes#Alpha_0.916_-_Please_Watch_For_Strange_Behavior

But booooooy has a lot of code changed.  Performance should be up quite a bit for older machines of all stripes, and there are some bugs and funky AI behaviors that are weeded out.

That said!  When a lot of code changes, the chance for bugs coming in is very high.  So if you are seeing strange things in this new version, please do let us know both through mantis and a reminder post on this thread if you don't mind.  If it's something new and really bad, I'll see it fastest if it comes through this thread.

Thanks!

Just loaded my latest saved game and got a fatal error. Are old saves compatible?

Error logs attached.

I can confirm that one...
Error logs exploded after game load.

I managed to launch game only once.
Now it dies fatally on game init step 3 displayed on screen.
Fatal error in gc DuplicateHandle failed. Revalidating files and backing up settings did not help.

Stuff from debug log:
9/19/2013 8:46:34 PM
GameInit (0 - 9/19/2013 8:46:34 PM)     9/19/2013 8:46:34 PM
GameInit (1 - 9/19/2013 8:46:34 PM)     9/19/2013 8:46:34 PM
GameInit (2 - 9/19/2013 8:46:34 PM)     9/19/2013 8:46:35 PM
audio load: 181     9/19/2013 8:46:35 PM
GameInit (3 - 9/19/2013 8:46:35 PM)     9/19/2013 8:46:35 PM
GameInit (4 - 9/19/2013 8:46:35 PM)     9/19/2013 8:46:35 PM
GameInit (5 - 9/19/2013 8:46:35 PM)

Another try after game delete and re-download leads to unknown software exception with number 0x80000003 - thats something I have not seen yet so grats ;)

There is also a gc.log file that contains one line:
Last error code: 3e6
I'm at around 8GB RAM availabe... so it should not run out. App process when crashed has about 330MB.

Savegames are compatible. Can you post any that are broken?

Orzelek, what OS are you on? And are there any other error logs you can post?

Just popped it in Mantis will upload the save.

I'm on Win 7 x64 SP1.
Game will start up if steam is not running.
With Steam running it crashes as described above.
I'll add my save file to Hyfrydle's mantis issue.

Should fuel tanks have a virus point total?

Started a new game and so far so good will update if anything goes wrong.

The virus points thing is a minor oversight.

Have responded to the stuff on mantis, and am seeing if I can duplicate the crash in steam now.

: x4000 September 19, 2013, 03:35:23 PM
Update: I can't duplicate the crash on start thing, and it sounds like others are not seeing it since they are getting in.  Perhaps a verification of the steam cache?

.917 is now out, and will auto download if you restart steam: http://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Bionic_Dues_Alpha_Release_Notes#Alpha_0.917_-_Please_Still_Keep_An_Eye_Out

Wow that was a quick one  :)

I try!  Especially with like 30 LPers having copies of the game at the moment, it makes me very antsy to have anything wrong with in a major way!
: Re: .916 out - Please Watch For Strange Behavior

I can get it to stop crashing if I disable steam community in game.
So it's tied to steam overlay in some way.

I did verify game files and then even reinstall it.
: Re: .916 out - Please Watch For Strange Behavior
: x4000 September 19, 2013, 04:18:00 PM
That is... exceedingly odd.

If you go into your install folder and delete the steam_api.dll, does that fix it?

Loading the game and saves in missions is working fine for me.
: Re: .916 out - Please Watch For Strange Behavior
: orzelek September 19, 2013, 04:37:24 PM
Deleting the steam_api.dll has no effect on the crash.

: x4000 September 19, 2013, 04:38:41 PM
Okay.  That's super odd, anyhow.  I'm not really sure what to say, since nobody else is seeing it and I can't duplicate it.  I'm rather out of ideas.  :-\

All good for me now having a blast literally this game gets better and better.

That's what this game is all about ;)

OK, that's (http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=12583) starting to hurt...

Edit:  Yeah, that's rough.  I'm glad I found it, but I'm going to have to roll a game without ThunderBots...the whole "my Exo died for no reason" is killing my ability to check for other bugs.  Literally.

Did you always have to shift+rightclick to destroy cover? Because you do in this version, and I can't remember if it was always that way or not.

Nope.  Mantised. (http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=12581)  There also appears to be a problem displaying AoE (http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=12586) without using Shift+Click.  I don't think either of those changes are intentional.

I'll need to test more (by which I mean play ;) ) but I just did a full mission and then walked around some after clearing and didn't have any of the issues in the previous version. So I want to tentatively say the issue there is fixed!

I'll wait until more playtime before commenting over on mantis though.

Maybe it's just me then.  I can play the game, but I am getting all kinds of weird going on...maybe the bots were not upgraded to 64-bit processing  ???

Just finished the first mission of a new game on (Arch)Linux.  I'm really liking all the polish going into the game!  No bugs have been found so far, other than the already mentioned hold-shift-to-target thing.

Great job, fellas!

EDIT:  Just finished a Hostage Mission.  Everything seemed to work great, but how do you know when you've killed all the bots other than just stepping on the exit periodically?  Is there a counter somewhere I missed?

Bug #12583 might qualify.  In a nutshell, thunderbots are able to generate 2000-damage explosions centered on the player.

Ooh, I've got a really nasty one for you this time.  It's like someone set off some sort of glitch nuke.

Here:  http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=12593

The AI for everything has gone absolutely berserk.  Utter chaos ensues.   Definitely unplayable in this state.  Even my sentries have gone nuts, firing at each other randomly.

You werent kidding when you said it might get a little weird with this update  :P

Left side bar, near the bottom is an icon for the mission type. The hostage one has a counter.

Thanks folks -- oof, goodness.  I knew that this might be a bad run of glitches, sorry about the inconvenience.  Once these settle down, the performance really is much better though!
