Trapped in a bugged room
« on: August 20, 2012, 09:16:01 pm »
I entered a room in a building which showed an entrance and multiple exits on the dungeon map. It turned out to be an empty square room with no entrances/exits at all (not even the one I entered through) with one bat flying around in it. The walls are solid black and the background is a window scene. I stick to the right wall when I jump at it (wood platforms do not stick), but there's nothing else in this room. Anything I can do (besides use my only Elusion) to get out? Is there any other bug report info I can provide?

That can occur when you have a blank .txt file in your maps directory. To fix it, try regenerating your chunk.

See the "If you want to regenerate your chunk" section.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

I just tried regenerating the chunk and it did recreate the room (the bat came back to life), but it was still the exact same room with no entrance/exit.

I'm not sure what each of the values represents, but could it be a problem in the values for the chunk in regioninterior.dat since it recreates the chunk in the same bugged form?

Nope, I'm betting it's a bad room map. If you go to your game directory and look in \Runtimedata\Logic\RoomMaps, I'd guess that there is a blank .txt file in there somewhere. If you get rid of that .txt file, then re-gen the chunk, you should be fine at that point.

Just checked and there are no 0-size files in that directory tree...is there another indicator that one is bad?

Not off-hand, but, could you send me your world file so I can look at it?

Here's a link with my world's folder in it (Albadar):

Fyi, I managed to get out of the room when the game errored on my next startup and it brought me back to the world map. I haven't gone back into the bugged room yet...

I have had two characters run into the same problem. Both times it happened while exploring a regular windmill building. Tried forcing a regen but it ended up back in the room again.

Both are still stuck, but the world is 18 continents large so uploading might be more difficult.

Is there a workaround to free the characters?

There's no workaround that I'm aware of. Hmm would you mind zipping the world file and tell me how big the resulting zip is? Maybe you could e-mail it to me?

Thanks for the response

The world is 28.8 MB. Windows compression only reduces it to 28.5 MB and using 7-zip only compresses it to 25.2 MB .7z file.  :-\

What would happen if I deleted an entire continent area instead of just one local area? I'm just wondering if there is a way to force the player to respawn at the settlement.

Let me know if anything develops or if you know a way I can upload the world. Thanks!
