Problems connecting to servers

I've enabled the ports 32322, made sure my friends and I were using the same ports but we can't connect to each others game or join anyone elses server. Has anyone else encountered a similar problem and if so how did you get around it?

I've started the world in single player and used it to host the multiplayer server. Were just having problems joining games

The server and the client do use different settings; you might want to check that if you changed the port. Can you connect to the local server on your own machine?

Beyond that it's probably one of a few things:
1. Software firewall blocking the server (just make an exception).
2. Ports not forwarded properly on the router if you're hosting on he Internet (the networking tab in the game has links and instructions).
3. Incorrect public ip used (again a link in the game).
