Archiving the game AFTER it's updated
« on: June 15, 2013, 05:03:56 pm »
Hi.
I like the easy-to-update ability right from the startup menu but I notice that the game (vww2), as delivered from the links in the IndieRoyale bundle, has a major update waiting.

I assume by the time I'm going to start playing this game (I have a backlog!) there's a chance the servers won't be online.  Is there a way to have the UPDATED game archived?  Or a way to save the downloaded patch files so I can install the original game and then run the patch?

Just update the game, then archive the game folder. Unzip anywhere, anytime.

And in terms of the servers not being online, that's highly unlikely.  We'd have to completely go out of business, and the changes of that are pretty close to nil at the moment (knock on wood!).

Even if Arcen went out of business, I assume the steam servers would still have it as well? Though that relies on using steam in the first place, heh.

Just update the game, then archive the game folder. Unzip anywhere, anytime.

A little confused about registries and such.
Let's see.
1. Install game.
2.  get patch from 'net
3.  zip it up and archive it.
4. uninstall.

-------------- LATER  -----------

1. install game.
2.  get patch - DANG no more Arcen
3. unzip the patched game right on top of the game I just installed.

That would work and wouldn't screw up anything weird stuff in Windows that I don't know about?

I did find the "Update - 1005.zip" file after the patch was installed.
Could I just unzip that over a fresh installation (making sure everything was in the right subdir)?

No registry. Literally: install, upgrade, zip. Apocolypse, markets crumble, radioactive men, the rich gaze on at the ruins of earth from space platforms. Unzip AI War anywhere. No need to reinstall.
