Megaman 8-bit Texture Pack (WIP)
« on: May 09, 2012, 11:02:32 pm »
I've been placing some old Megaman sprites in the game for my own amusement, and so far it is looking quite nice I think. I've never been a fan of the original art in this game anyway. Perhaps someone else would also be interested in using this pack when it is complete?

So far I haven't done that much, but here is a screenshot of Blizzard Man in a blizzard, a taste of how things might look like in the end:

Wow.  That's pretty ambitious.  That'll be amazing if it comes out looking like that.

Funny how most of the first mods and such to come into the game are Megaman.  LOL.

Because Megaman is awesome I assume, and this game does bring back fond memories of the great platform games of the past. =)

Speaking of which, here is Chill Man chilling in an ice age building:

O_o....now I'm curious if someone will do a Metroid version. This is very cool. This might be the first pack I actually try in AVWW  :D

Thanks guys! I'm glad you like it. =)

And here is Gemini Man who seems to have found a secret mission:

I think it's pretty easy to replace the music in this game as well, and the the old Megaman games have some of the best game music ever made in my opinion, so imagine all these screenshots with a soundtrack something like this:

I'll totally try this out when you finish.

The character swaps from other modders felt so out of place and looked bad in the AVWW world art, and this totally is the way around that problem.

Sometimes, the characters seem out of proportion since they are taken from sprite much wider and shorter than the original AVWW characters(also too short or wide for their hit box), it's hard to tell just by looking, but those small looking megaman characters fill their hit boxes properly?

Nanostrike made plenty of examples of bad sizing, but I'll just use one example, he swapped Jack with a sprite almost half his height.

Hitboxes will not be exact, but the characters will be of the correct height, just not always of the right width, which does not matter as much I think. The characters in the screenshots looks small because they are wider than the characters they replace, but they are of the right height.

EDIT: This just in! Ice Man encounters ice pirates at a building made of ice!

GASP!! Not the Sky Pirates!

Will you swap their projectiles?

I can imagine many possible levels in the future for when we are able to board their ships(I'm assuming that's what they are hinting at wherever it mentioned the Illari finding a way to let us fight them).

I will swap all projectiles, if I can. I have found particles to be tricky to work with, but I will do what I can. =)

Boarding the ice pirate's ships would be awesome, and I imagine that I would have to change their design quite a bit if that were a possibility.

One thing that might be impossible to change in this game is the fonts, I can't seem to figure it out. If anyone knows how to do it I would appreciate any help.

Depending on how they render the fonts, changing them might be difficult at best. I'd probably have to let Keith or Chris comment on that.

I've learned that changing the fonts is impossible, so no need to worry about that any more.

EDIT: In the year 200X, a super robot named Mega Man was created.

Liking this a lot. This might be the first texture pack that I use, just for fun. Are the mobs going to get makeovers as well?
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.
