[MAP] Overlord Room: Little N Large
« on: November 02, 2011, 02:23:13 pm »
* This isn't quite the map I wanted to do, but the sanity checks put in place don;t allow proper small corridors :p

This map is designed as a bit of a homage to the old "Duke Burger" level from DN3D, and also the similar maps/modes like de_rats (CS:S), etc.

It is primarily a 2 tier room, the top level being similar to a skelebot run, with some tetris-like crates above and a ladder leading up to the water (lava) store.  The water tank leads all the way down to the lower floor and spreads across the full width of the map. The lower floor is a simple 3 level design with a semi-crated floor to gain access to/from the water.  The water tank is the only access between the 2 floors... or is it..?

The "special" part is the rat-run, which you can only gain access to by transmogrifying into a bat, or by shrinking yourself*. the run goes through the ventilation between the 2 areas and allows you safe passage between them, depending on what spells/scrolls you have equipped.

If you check out my Hadley's Hope map, there is currently a way to introduce a one-square gap, although it's a little untidy.

Basically you need something a little like this:

   |__
   xxx|
   xxx|_________
   xxx_
   |      |
   |      |________

That should work!

It seems to not mind there only being a 1x1 space, but as soon as you try to make it 2x1 it alters the height to 2x3, etc.

I think!

That's pretty much the route I have taken, just the little 1x1 gaps are at either end of the "rat run" rather than at the main horizontal paths.  Appreciate the suggestion though! :)

Does the one at the top work that way presently too? That was the one which prompted me to make the suggestion - I can see the one at the bottom of the rat run is already 1x1.

But if it works at both ends, that's even better! Means there's a way to have a 2x1 gap!
